Netflix has really been upping its anime game for quite some time now. From the 2010 Angel Beats, Fruits Basket (2001), and Soul Eater (2008) to new animes including ERASED (2016), Child of Kamiari Month (2021), and Shaman King (2021), the streaming giant seems to have it all. One such highly anticipated anime is set to return on the platform. Yes, Ultraman Season 2 is happening.
None other than director Kenji Kamiyama is back with the second installment of Ultraman on Netflix. His style of direction is appreciated by fans worldwide. Based on the manga of the same name by Eiichi Shimizu, Ultraman, is the first-ever issue of Monthly Hero’s Magazine. In April 2019, Netflix released a screen (anime) adaptation co-produced by Production I.G and Sola Digital Arts, of the same.
Ultraman follows the story of Shinjiro introduced as a mere high school student but turns out he has superhero powers inherited from his father. IGN India reported, “The really cool thing about Ultraman is that the series doesn’t rush Shinjiro’d progression from zero to hero. Instead, the writers wisely use all 13 episodes to develop Shinjiro’s character through a rigorous trial by fire. Let’s just say, Shinjiro’s arc pays off in the final cinematic moments of the season.”
Ultraman Season 1 was extremely well received by fans and critics alike. ComicBook.com described, “Ultraman is a blast of nostalgia straight to the heart that’ll make you act out your own transformation poses in the comfort of your home.”
According to Asian Movie Pulse – Apart from the animation style, which definitely needs some getting used to, “Ultraman” is a great title, as it combines shonen-level battle with much depth, which, in essence, make it a title addressed to adults instead of teenagers.

Ultraman Season 2 is scheduled to release on April 14, 2022, on Netflix.

Ultraman Season 2 Plot
The official Netflix synopsis reads:
Several years have passed since the events of Ultraman, with the legendary ‘Giant of Light’ now a memory, as it is believed he returned home after fighting the many giant aliens that invaded the Earth.
Shin Hayata’s son Shinjiro seems to possess a strange ability, and it is this ability, along with his father’s revelation that he was Ultraman, that leads Shinjiro to battle the new aliens invading the Earth as the new Ultraman.
Ultraman Season 1 Finale RecapSeiji goes into a fight with Ace Killer to save his fellow Ultramen and, presumably, Yuko. At first, Seiji even outperforms Shinjiro and Moroboshi. The alien assassins, on the other hand, continue to torment him, possibly destroying his fighting mindset and expertise.
Seiji has viciously shot up soon after, and the aliens are taken aback by his persistence. Shinjiro would come to aid, but he’s preoccupied with fighting an alien, who has him trapped in super-strong plant tentacles. When Moroboshi has recovered enough from the blast, the SSSP hands him a weapon. Moroboshi slashes an alien, but he and Shinjiro both become entangled in the tentacles.
