Will the new season chart list Virgin River Season 5 as the most popular show in summer and will it become a top-watched series? Continue reading to find out.

There is no doubt when a beloved television series like ‘Virgin River,’ reaches the level of success it has been able to retain in a short span of time, which started back in 2019 and has already built a reputation that holds a special place in the romantic drama genre on the platform with thriving four seasons and a fifth one already heading its way sometime in the 2023–24 summer streaming season on Netflix.

When a series has a huge impact on the audience and builds a loyal fanbase, many questions about its popularity become a constant subject that gets raised by the fandom every now and then, which is not unusual for a show that has been ongoing for years and doesn’t seem to stop anytime soon with its renewals, as it constantly gets on the top charting list in many regions around the world.

For reference, the fourth season, which aired back in 2022, still has a 100% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with an average rating of 7/10. This rating shows that love is still relevant among fans after all these years with the likes of other beloved series, which include Manifest, Stranger Things, and The Witcher, among others, that also keep on growing with a new season each passing year.

Moreover, we are confident that the upcoming season will make its premiere sometime in or around July 2023, as Netflix will soon begin promotions to announce the official release date of the fifth season in a few weeks and start engaging the core audience to clear their schedules for streaming the new season.

Eventually, the admirers will rush to binge-watch the episodes as soon as they become available. Though it will be thrilling to stream the anticipated fifth season, there will be many fans who will find the one-day premiere of all the episodes to be somewhat frustrating because the binge-watching format makes all this wait even more agonizing, and the cycle repeats for a whole year of wanting another season.

This format leads the hype to last for a few weeks, and eventually, it dulls down as many viewers stream the season in a matter of days just to see what surprises and cliffhangers it might have in store in order for the show to progress in the new chapter without properly delving into and understanding the deeper character arcs that the show has planned after all this waiting and months of suspense.

We know you are thinking the same as there are two sides to every coin, and we are aware that this binge-watching method can have a negative effect on the series’ longevity and interest among viewers.

But, there is the great side too, which increases the chances of the show entering the top 10 charts as the fan’s focus is solely to watch the season as quickly as possible, giving it all the necessary clicks to be a success. After noting the pattern for years, we are certain that the same will definitely happen to the fifth season of Virgin River, and we have no doubt that it will be a top-charting premiere across the world.

Even though it seems far too early for us to predict whether the fifth season will be able to crack the top 10 lists for the premiere week across the globe in many different countries. But, whom are we lying to? Even if we want to deny it as such, it’s likely to enter the streaming charts given how long the fans have had to wait to follow the next chapter of Mel and Jack.

Of course, one can’t ignore the buzz surrounding this series, which trends on social media every now and then, which leaves the possibility wide open. Right now, it’s safe to say that Virgin River Season 5 could end up being one of the most popular summer shows on Netflix, if not the only one. We’ll just have to wait and hope for the best that the fifth season lives up to the expectations of the fans.

Virgin River Season 5: What can the fans expect in the new season?

Right now not much has been revealed about the new season, but speaking to Glamour Magazine, Smith teased the upcoming fifth season, quoting, “We get into things that will be new and exciting, but still very much feel like the same show, but are definitely taking a more exciting approach to some of the stories. A little bit louder, but not to the detriment of the comfort of the show. I want it to feel like season five will be next-level.”

Alexandra Breckenridge also teased some of the plot points regarding season 5, “I think this season has started out well and we’re getting into a few episodes soon that are pretty heavy. They’re really intense and I think that they’re some of the best episodes we’ve ever done. I never say that either! I think that there’s a high sense of drama that starts to come up this season that it’s going to leave people on the edge of their seats. At least, I hope. I’m excited to get into that.”

In an exclusive interview with Good Housekeeping, Annette also gave further details about how her character will drastically change going into season 5. According to the actress, the mayor of Virgin River will focus on her recovery as she gets back into her daily activities within the community. “Little by little [Hope’s] getting better,” she told back in November.

“The producers want her to get back as much as she can to bring the Hope that we knew originally. So, I think that’s interesting, but she will be changed. I think it will have changed her for the better.” Further adding, “I think she is going to be more empathetic,” she revealed. “I mean, she’s still who she is … [In] season five, she’s still dealing with [her injury], but less so … By the end of season five, you’re going to see pretty much how she’s going to be.”

The upcoming season is also expected to have a total of 12 episodes with a runtime of 40 to 48 minutes, just like the fourth season, which will drop all at once, so you can binge away! The titles and synopsis of the majority of episodes have not been released yet. But, IMDb has released the titles of the three episodes, which are as follows:

  • Season 5 Episode 1: TBA – 2023
  • Season 5 Episode 2: Songbird – 2023
  • Season 5 Episode 3: Calculated Risk – 2023
