The fifth season of Virgin River was confirmed in September 2021, as the series was renewed along with the fourth season, and filming for the fifth season began on July 18, 2022, and is scheduled to conclude on November 10, 2022. Moreover, Patrick Sean Smith replaces Sue Tenney as showrunner for the new season.
On the other hand, if we go back to the release of Season 4, we can see that filming was completed in December 2021, and the season was released in July. What’s happening with Denny and Lizzie?
According to TVline, Denny may not want to pursue a relationship with Lizzie due to his Huntington’s disease diagnosis, but it doesn’t look like she’s giving up on him in Season 5.
“If you know [my work in ABC Family cancer drama Chasing Life], you know how I’m going to approach that relationship,” Smith tells TVLine of Denny and Lizzie. “I don’t want to focus on the dark and the sadness. People in the Huntington’s community would want to see the same. That was one that was tricky for me, but it goes back to what I earned on Chasing Life. Take a story that has the potential to go into a dark place and find a way around it.”
Melissa and Nick’s involvement in Jack’s business
Nick is a beloved citizen of Virgin River and a rich one at that. He decided midway through the season to invest in Jack’s new glamping business and put up three times what Jack asked for in the initial investment. A few episodes later, we found out that Nick’s sister is actually the string-puller behind the fentanyl business Brady has been trying desperately to escape from, which brings up a lot of questions about whether Nick is also in the drug business, and what that means for Jack’s new venture.
“It’s an interesting twist. Jack and Mel are such honest people that I’m surprised,” Breckenridge informed TV Guide. “I’m really curious to know if Nick knows that Melissa is a fentanyl kingpin. I don’t actually know that. Obviously, Nick has invested in this airstream glamping business that Jack is starting, so I think Melissa may become a part of that. How that ties into any danger for Jack and Mel, I don’t know!”
Where is Grayson Gurnsey?
We all know that Grayson Gurnsey is one of the characters missing from the recent behind-the-scenes photos. We know that Ricky left town for basic training in the Season 4 finale, which could keep him away from our screens for a while.
“The timeline was set that he would be in basic training until December,” Smith says, reminding us that the show’s naturally slower pace will make it feel like Ricky has been gone even longer. “I won’t say [you’ll have to wait until] Season 10, but he’s a fan favorite. Everybody loves him. We’ll probably see Ricky at some point down the road.”
What about Jack and Mel’s reaction to the baby news?
Of course, the most asked question is that the Charmaine revelation comes after a volatile season for Jack and Mel in which past trauma compelled Jack to examine his drinking and how he was struggling to cope with tragedies in his past. By the end of the season, Jack and Mel appeared to be on the same page, but Breckenridge admitted that the news of the twins’ paternity would cause some tension between the couple, though not as much as the events of this season.
“I think that they have dealt with so much already in the very short time that they have known each other and started their relationship. I am sure it’s going to create some tension between them,” she explained. “It’s just trying to cope with it. The reality of that is huge. If someone lies to you and says five months into her pregnancy, ‘Oh no, by the way, they aren’t yours.’ That is huge, massive. So they’re going to have to deal with that, as anybody would, but I don’t think it’s going to damage their relationship.”
Virgin River Season 4: A Quick Recap
