Virgin River Season 5: What can the viewers expect in the new season?

According to New Beauty, Alexandra Breckenridge teased that it is going to be a heavier season, quoting, “I think this season has started out well and we’re getting into a few episodes soon that are pretty heavy. They’re really intense and I think that they’re some of the best episodes we’ve ever done. I never say that either! I think that there’s a high sense of drama that starts to come up this season that it’s going to leave people on the edge of their seats. At least, I hope. I’m excited to get into that.”

In an interview with Deadline, Netflix’s head of drama, Jinny Howe, touched on how the series will change going into the fifth season, stating, “I think what’s going to be interesting is to see this universe continue to grow and expand and to see new characters, other characters return. A lot of that was set up in the Season 4 finale but it’s going to be really exciting to see all of that come to a head in Season 5. And some of the soap that’s going to come out of these new complex tensions and triangles.”

The main cast members from the fourth season who are expected to reprise their roles are as follows Alexandra Breckenridge as Melinda Monroe, Martin Henderson as Jack Sheridan, Tim Matheson as Vernon Mullins, Annette O’Toole as Hope McCrea, Lauren Hammersley as Charmaine Roberts, Colin Lawrence as John “Preacher” Middleton, Grayson Gurnsey as Ricky, and Sarah Dugdale as Lizzie. The recurring cast members include Melinda Dahl as Stacie Monroe, Lexa Doig as Paige Lassiter, Mark Ghanimé as Dr. Cameron Hayek, Kai Bradbury as Denny Cutler, and Zibby Allen as Brie Sheridan.

In October 2022, What’s on Netflix exclusively confirmed that Kandyse McClure had joined the cast for season 5 in a yet-to-be-revealed role. Also joining the cast for season 5 are three new faces confirmed in November 2022, including, Susan Hogan (Legends of Tomorrow), Elise Gatien (Supernatural), and Paolo Maiolo (Supernatural). Finally, Breckenridge disclosed in her interview with Glamour that the new showrunner, writers, and directors will bring more LGBTQ+ stories to create more inclusivity in the show. Breckenridge has been extremely vocal about more diversity in Virgin River since the beginning.

Will there be a Virgin River Season 6?

The show is only currently renewed through the end of season 5, but there’s more on the cards in the aforementioned interview with Netflix’s head of drama, Howe told Deadline that we’ll “definitely see more longevity and growth with the show,” adding, “As long as the audience asks for it and shows up – and I think we see with Season 4 that the fandom is very strong and growing in many places as well – it feels like based on what we’re seeing with Season 4 and the anticipation for Season 5 that there is a lot more storytelling to offer us. It will be exciting to see which characters continue to break out and audiences crave more of; we’re paying very close attention, understanding that this is a really rich universe of characters and that people can’t seem to get enough, myself included. So I think as long as that continues to be the case – which we’re very hopeful for – you can rest assured that there will be more Virgin River.”

Virgin River: What happened in the prior season?

The fourth season holds a 100% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 7 reviews with an average rating of 7/10. The official description follows: Despite not knowing whether her baby belongs to her deceased husband, Mark or Jack, Mel begins Season Four with a sense of optimism. For years she has yearned to be a mother, and her dream is one step closer to reality. While Jack is supportive and excited, the question of paternity continues to gnaw at him. Complicating matters is the arrival of a handsome new doctor who’s in the market to start a family of his own.

Hope is still healing from her car accident, and the lingering psychological effects of her brain injury will have profound consequences for both her and Doctor Brie. Intent on proving the innocence of the man she loves, she unexpectedly finds herself in a closer relationship with Mike and one step closer to Calvin’s violent criminal web. Even as Preacher forges a new romantic connection, he can’t help but hold out hope for being reunited with Christopher and Paige. Take a look at the official trailer of Virgin River Season 4 below:
