September 7th sees the arrival of the fifth edition of Virgin River. So, any news about the sixth Season now that Season 5 is already on Netflix? Keep reading!
Ardent Virgin River fans know we are hinting at the infamous Mel and Jack duo, which is set to be back for Season 5 of Virgin River, releasing September 7th on Netflix for 10 episodes, followed by a two-episode Holiday Edition on November 30th. This backs up the befuddling cliffhangers we were left with in Season 4. Ten episodes would not cut it. Hence, a 12-episode run would give us more closure on the 4-season-long questions we are plagued with.
The series has garnered unwavering support and fan-following since its inception, so much so that the creators revisited their earlier decision to make Season 5 the finale. Now, they have decided to extend it to Season 6! All you Virgin River fans have a lot to look forward to after watching Season 5!
Will Virgin River Season 6 reach us soon? Will the current WGA and SAG AFTRA strike situation affect release dates? Has filming for Virgin River Season 6 been delayed?
If these questions have been looming over your head ever since the news of the Season 5 release date, you have come to the right place. We have compiled all the recent updates regarding Virgin River Season 6, so continue reading to find out.
Virgin River Season 6: Is It Happening?
For those of you who follow Web News Observer on a daily basis will know that Netflix renewed Virgin River Season 6 ahead of its Season 5 release on May 17th, 2023. As mentioned earlier, due to the astounding success of the series and the crazy reactions of the fans who couldn’t get enough of it, the creators had to revisit their earlier plan of ending the series with Season 5, and instead extend it to include another season.
So, has the filming for Virgin River Season 6 commenced yet? Let’s find out. In other news, Season 5 will be out and running on Netflix with 10 episodes on September 7th, and 2 more episodes on November 30th as a Holiday edition. We cannot wait to find out what Season 5 brings to the table. Only then will it make it easier for us to predict the storyline for Season 6.
Here is a Twitter post from when Season 5 wrapped up filming, NOT SEASON 6!

Recently, actress Alexandra Breckenridge shared a sad update with her fans on Instagram. The actress confirmed that the sixth season of this Netflix series has been put on hold owing to the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Expressing her frustration at the situation, the actress said that it felt “weird” to sit at her home in Atlanta, Georgia, when she had prepared to be in Vancouver this time. She added, “I’m always homesick when I’m there but now my body feels like it’s supposed to be in Vancouver so it’s very bizarre.”
Virgin River Season 6 Release Date: When Can We Expect Its Arrival?
Unfortunately, it is too soon to speculate on the release dates for Virgin River Season 6 since Season 5 will be coming out next month. However, let us take a look at the current developments around Season 6. Ever since the announcement for a series renewal came out in May, the Writer’s Guild of America broke out in protest over unfair practices of the production houses and inferior protection of rights for the writers. This protest was joined in by the actors guild called SAG AFTRA in July. So, it is safe to say that scriptwriters and actors are currently unavailable to continue work on their series until and unless their agreements are met by the production houses. It seems like a fair demand since they are the very source of our entertainment, and they deserve basic artistic rights and fair compensation in order for them to work well.
Currently, the strike is entering its fourth month, and there has been negligible development on the negotiation bit. So, seems like the Virgin River fans need to wait a while longer than expected. Amidst a number of scripted series that have halted productions or delayed their schedules, Virgin River Season 6 is one of them. Hence, there is no script as of writing this since the writers are on strike, and following this, it is obvious that filming for Season 6 has also not commenced. However, it is important to know that if the strike situation successfully dissipates within the next two months and negotiation is met, Virgin River Season 6 filming will commence by the end of 2023. Judging by the time taken for filming and post-production, our prediction suggests a late fall release in 2024.
A Henderson Tease for Season 6 was rectified by himself when he posted a photo of him by the beach wearing his cap with the Instagram caption:
“Waiting on set finding sunbeams shooting season 5… sorry I originally wrote season 6 which was a silly mistake because we haven’t made season 6.”
Anyway, with that being said, it is clear that the filming for Season 6 has not commenced yet and is expected to start by the end of 2023, provided the current strike simmers down within the next month or two.

Virgin River Season 6 Plot: What Can We Expect In The New Season?
It is too soon to speculate what will be the major focus of Season 6 when the scripts for it are not even ready yet, let alone filming. It is only after Season 5 releases on Netflix on September 7th that we can make predictions on what is to come in Season 6. Till then, let us see what Virgin River Season 5 will bring to us in a month’s time.
There have been a few confirmed developments with regard to the titles for each episode of Virgin River Season 5. Since its inception in 2019, Seasons 1, 2, and 3 of Virgin River have released 10-episode seasons. However, Season 4 saw a welcome alteration in the number of episodes., which was changed from 10 to 12.
The same fate is shared by Virgin River Season 5, and we owe it to the live stream with Alexandra Breckenridge. In the live stream, she confirmed a 12-episode for Season 5. She added to this by saying that it will consist of two parts, the first will be released on September 7th with 10 episodes, and the second will be released on November 30th as a ‘Holiday Special’ with two episodes.
Additionally, you will be pleased to know that ‘What’s On Netflix’ has determined the titles for Season 5 episodes. We have noted them down here: (We do not have intel on the correct order of the episodes just yet, but we are sure to inform you as soon as we have the information)
“A Second Chance”
“Songbird”(expected to be Episode 2)
“Calculated Risk”(expected to be Episode 3)
“Never Gonna Be the Same”(expected to be Episode 4)
“Angel’s Peak”
“From the Ashes”
“Full Moon”
“Heroes Rise”
“Labor Day”
“Trial by Fire”
“Father Christmas”(expected to be the Holiday Episode)
“The More the Merrier”(expected to be the Holiday Episode)
By the looks of it, based on the titles, it looks like there will be major twists and unhappy endings this Season. For instance, “Labor Day” sounds like the day Charmine Roberts is expected to give birth to her twins. A notable mention would be the episode called “Angel’s Peak,” which is also the title of one of the novels in Robyn Carr’s Virgin River series( on which the series is based).
The episode titles “Never Gonna Be the Same” and “Trial by Fire” signify a more somber tone, where there seems to be a possibility of someone committing a mistake that is leading to a strain in their relationship. We don’t know for sure who they are in reference to, but we sure do hope it is NOT MEL AND JACK! They deserve their peace.
Commenting on the premise of Virgin River Season 5, Jinny Howe stated,
“I think what’s going to be interesting is to see this universe continue to grow and expand and to see new characters, other characters return. A lot of that was set up in the Season 4 finale but it’s going to be really exciting to see all of that come to a head in Season 5. And some of the soap that’s going to come out of these new complex tensions and triangles.”(courtesy of Deadline)
This indicates that our questions by the end of Season 4 will finally be answered in Season 5. The situation-ships created in Season 4 were pretty tough to digest, given that everything and everyone was amusingly interconnected from the beginning. In addition to that, Netflix has confirmed new entries that might add spice to an already hot plate of situations. It might turn out to be the equivalent of opening up a can of worms! In conversation with TUDUM, Richard Keith promised,
“There are some new characters coming to Virgin River this season that will mix things up a bit.”
Breckenridge also told Glamour,
“It starts the next morning. So it’s like no time has passed.”
Smith added,
“There are a lot of great Easter eggs and breadcrumbs that have been left [from previous seasons], and we are clocking all of them thoughtfully.” That includes a potential visit from Mandy, Jack’s never-before-seen ex-wife.
Breckenridge disclosed to Glamour that the arrival of a new showrunner, writers, and directors would certainly herald more LGBTQ+ stories in order to induce more inclusivity in the show.
With this in mind, we will just have to wait for Season 5 to release, and then we can predict what Virgin River Season 6 will bring to the table based on the cliffhangers left out in Season 5.
