Wednesday’s child is full of woe! And it seems like there’s more horror on the way for Wednesday Season 2.
In a recent interview on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Jenna Ortega talked about what to expect from Season 2 of Wednesday, which is quite exciting to get some insight into what the next season will cover! Especially after the season finale episode revealed that Wednesday lands in trouble with Principal Weems. But that’s just the start of her problems, and to fight an ancient evil, she’ll need all her friends’ help!
In the conversation, the actress said that the second season of Wednesday is currently in the writing process. She also mentioned that the writers and the complete team are currently working on the plot and other details. Talking about the same, Jenna Ortega stated, “We wish to increase the horror element a little and then take Wednesday out of the romantic situation to let her be her own self.”
Take a look at the interview on the official The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon YouTube channel below:
If you recall, the first season of Wednesday featured a murder, but it was also a love triangle revolving around Wednesday, Hunter Doohan’s Tyler, and Percy Hynes White’s Xavier, not to mention Wednesday’s blossoming friendship with Emma Myers’ Enid. So, it’s great that the series will finally fully embrace its horror element, which to be honest, was a bit missing in the first season.
So far, the direction the new season is taking is already exciting, and we don’t expect anything less from Wednesday Adams!
Moreover, it’s not the first time the “Wednesday,” actress has discussed her aspirations for the upcoming season, for which she will serve as executive producer. “I think, me personally, I would love to see the series get a little bit darker,” she told E! News on the 2023 Golden Globes red carpet on January 10, 2023 “Embrace the horror aspect a little bit more.”
Similar views were expressed by Ortega in a recent episode of Dax Shepard’s “Armchair Expert” podcast. “I don’t think I’ve ever had to put my foot down on a set in the way that I had to on ‘Wednesday’ because it’s so easy to fall into that category, especially with this type of show,” she said. Further adding, “Everything that she does, everything that I had to play, did not make sense for her character at all. Her being in a love triangle made no sense.”
*Spoilers Alert*
The series co-showrunner, Al Gough, says he plans to delve further into the morbid teen’s growth if given the chance. “The series is really about a girl who sees the world in black and white, and learning there are shades of gray,” he tells TVLine. Further adding, “I think like any relationship or any friendship, it can get complicated by other factors. It’s never going to be smooth sailing. And it’s really her learning to navigate the ups and downs of friendship.”
“[The stalker proves] that threats remain out there… to both Wednesday and the school,” co-creator Millar told Netflix’s Tudum. “Not all not loose ends have been tied up neatly as she thinks they have.”
After all these insights into the second season, we know the readers want to know when the new episodes are likely to premiere. However, Netflix hasn’t provided a specific release date just yet. But if we guess, we’ll have to wait until 2024 because it’s thought that the production will begin later this year after the preproduction reaches its final stage. Hence, while you wait for another season to explore the kooky, spooky world of Nevermore!
We recommend that the fans should stream the first season on Netflix with a range of membership options. The basic membership starts at $9.99/month, and the standard membership starts at $15.49/month.
