What is BLACKPINK’s Lisa’s current contract status? Agency reveals

YG Entertainment, the agency responsible for managing the K-pop girl group BLACKPINK, has officially responded to the rumors surrounding Lisa’s contract status. In a statement provided to TV Report, the agency clarified that discussions regarding the MONEY singer’s contract renewal are still in progress.

Moreover, no official confirmation has been made to substantiate the rumors that have been circulating as of now. Reports had previously also suggested that the BLACKPINK member had declined a staggering $40 million USD contract offer from the agency. Moreover, there were claims of substantial offers from overseas labels, particularly from Thailand. However, both Lisa as well as YG Entertainment had previously refrained from commenting on these reports.

Ongoing Negotiations and Contract Expiry

It’s worth noting that negotiations between Lisa and YG Entertainment were reported to be facing significant challenges as of July 2023. Given that BLACKPINK made their debut in 2016, their contracts are set to expire this year. Nevertheless, the agency has not yet officially confirmed any contract renewals for the group’s members.

Lisa’s Recent Activities

Despite the ongoing contract discussions, Lisa has been making waves with her recent activities. On September 6, 2023, she took to her Instagram to share exciting news with her fans. Lisa announced her headlining role in a series of five captivating performances at the renowned Crazy Horse Paris art theater in France. These shows are set to showcase Lisa’s dynamic stage presence, featuring original cabaret numbers. The debut show is scheduled for September 28, followed by two more on September 29 and 30.

“Money” and its Success

In addition to her live performances, Lisa’s solo single “Money” has achieved remarkable chart success. It now holds the record for the longest-charting song by a female K-pop artist on the Global Spotify chart, with an impressive 258 days (figures may have increased since then) on the charts, surpassing the previous record held by BLACKPINK’s “How You Like That.”

International Recognition

“Money” has not only dominated the charts but also received formal recognition in France, surpassing 15 million streams and making Lisa the first K-pop solo artist to attain a Gold certification from the French Phonographic Association (SNEP). In September 2022, “Money” achieved a significant milestone in the United States, selling over 1 million units, and Lisa became the first K-pop female solo artist to receive a Platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

Lisa’s career continues to soar, and fans eagerly await updates on her contract negotiations and future endeavors.
