Considered to be one of the longest-running Canadian shows in history, Heartland becomes the most binge-worthy show owing to its mass appeal. Its latest season aired on CBC on October 2nd, 2022. For the unversed, Heartland is a Canadian family comedy-drama inspired by a book series by Lauren Brooke. It is modeled around the lives of Bartlett-Fleming, Amy Fleming, and her older sister Louise ‘Lou’ Fleming on their Alberta-based family ranch, which is called the ‘Heartland’. They live with their widowed grandfather Jack Bartlett, their father, Tim Fleming, and Ty Borden, a hired farmhand.
Created by Murray Shostak and produced by Heather Conkie, Michael Weinberg, Tom Cox, and Jordy Randall, for the past fifteen years, the show continues to reign in the hearts of the people.
Following the tail end of its predecessor, in which, Amy gathered up her mental strength to stay with and support her daughter after the death of Ty. Season 16 is all about Amy raising her daughter while caring for the horses, while also evolving into a better and a stronger version of herself. In addition to Amy, other characters such as Lou, Tim, Jack and Lisa also advance forward in life and step into growth and development that can be observed in their personal as well as other landscapes.
With Netflix streaming Heartland season 15 from May 31st, ’23, the fans of the show are preoccupied with one of the most obvious questions right now. When will Netflix US stream Heartland Season 16?
Here’s what we know so far about the same.
When will Heartland Season 16 arrive on Netflix US?
Heartland was renewed for a 16th season on June 1, 2022 by CBC. In an interesting turn of events, the series has made it to the top three for the 2022 Canadian Screen Awards’ Cogeco Audience Choice Award.
Not only that, but according to the sources, the latest season constitutes 15 hour-long episodes which is certainly an addition to the 10 episodes from seasons 13-15. Ever since the demise of Ty, the show has tried hard to be on the top of the viewers’ list. And they are apparently winning!
However, it will take some time for Heartland Season 16 to arrive on Netflix after its release on CBC because that’s how the format is. The first-run US distribution rights for Heartland are in possession with the cable network UP Faith & Family. On June 1st, season 16 was available for streaming in the US on UP Faith & Family, wherein the new episodes were live every Thursday. This format will likely continue till early September ’23.
Per the deal, UP Faith & Family will hold the rights for streaming season 16 for next year or so. This implies that all the Netflix subscribers won’t be able to stream the latest season of Heartland on the streaming giant till May 2024.
Who is the cast of Heartland Season 16?
The official cast of Heartland Season 16 includes:
- Amber Marshall as Amy Fleming
- Shaun Johnston as Jack Bartlett
- Michelle Morgan as Lou Fleming Morris
- Chris Potter as Tim Fleming
- Gabriel Hogan as Peter Morris
- Jessica Steen as Lisa Stillman
- Kerry James as Caleb Odell
- Alisha Newton as Georgina ‘Georgie’ Fleming
That being said, we have some updates to share regarding Heartland Season 17.
Is Heartland officially renewed for a 17th season?
Fortunately, yes! Heartland has been officially renewed for season 17. Heartland season 16 premiered on the official network channel in October 2022 and wrapped up with its 15th episode in February 2023. Season 16 was renewed six months after the finale of season 15 aired for CBC. Based on the given schedule, the delayed season 17 renewal of the longest-running Canadian show is no surprise!
The brand-new season will constitute 10 one-hour episodes, the first of which will mark the milestone 250th episode of the series since it began in 2007. The filming locations for Heartland season 17 include Calgary, High River, Millarville, and Longview in Alberta, Canada.
Produced by Dynamo Films and SEVEN24Films, Heartland season 17 will premiere in Canada this fall by CBC and CBC Gem, as mentioned in the press release.
Sharing the excitement of achieving the 250-episode feat, Amber Marshall shares, “It is hard to believe I have been part of 250 HEARTLAND episodes. When I look back and do the math, I’ve spent over 1700 days on set which is roughly 20,400 hours. I really can’t imagine a better group of people to create something so special. We are all so proud of this show.”
Michelle Morgan also adds saying, “HEARTLAND entering the 17th season in an industry where a series is lucky to get a second or a third season is hard to wrap your head around. I attribute the longevity of HEARTLAND to a perfect alchemy of all the most important elements in television. We have a good story engine and great chemistry between the different actors on the set. We have a stunning and unique setting, a little piece of southern Alberta known as the Foothills. We have many knowledgeable local cowboys and cowgirls to guide the show and keep it authentically grounded in the Western world. But the most important element is that it is a multi-generational show that anyone in the family can watch and enjoy.”
When can we expect Heartland season 17 to arrive on Netflix?
For Netflix viewers, happiness lies in patience, because Heartland season 17 will take a while before it hits the Netflix library. If season 17 premieres on CBC this fall, then we can expect it to arrive on Netflix only in late 2024 or early 2025.
