Netflix mini-series, The Fall of the House of Usher by Mike Flanagan, has been continuously the top streaming series for the last month. Enrapturing everyone with its enrapturing gothic horror and webs of secrets and lies with a flavor of revenge added too, the series satisfied the viewers’ craving for something horror and mysterious. The story is narrated by a bereaved and ill billionaire of a corrupted pharmaceutical who made a deal that led to all of his children’s deaths.
Like most of Mike Flannagan’s works, the series is based on a work of classic work inspired by works and characters by Edgar Allan Poe, specifically his short story, The Fall of the House of Usher. With themes of gothic, revenge, family secrets, and horror, the mini-series is a must-watch for fans of director Mike Flanagan, who has previously given movies like Ouija, Oculus, and Gerald’s Game.

Its plot is inspired by Henry James’s The Turn of the screw, a short horror novella created and directed by Mike Flanagan.

In a morbid twist of scary stories, a group of teenagers who are suffering from terminal illnesses come together to meet and share scary stories at midnight in the hospital they are all admitted to. At Brightcliffe Home, these patients make a pact that the first one to die will come and try to make contact from beyond the grave. It is inspired by Christopher Pike’s book The Midnight Club and including some other works of his.

The Haunting of Hill House (2018)
Based on Shirley Jackson’s novel, The Haunting of House Hill, presents a modern retelling of the book’s haunting story. The Crain family’s tragedy started when they spent a summer living in Hill House, thinking they could profit after doing some minor repairs and then selling it. But their stay time increased as disturbances around the house increased their work on the house. The family starts to experience strange and inexplicable incidents around the house and runs away one day from it after a tragic loss. But the haunts of that summer still reside in their minds and follow them to adulthood, compelling them to once again reunite at the haunted Hill house.

Midnight Mass (2021)
Faith and horror intertwine in Netflix’s mini-series “Midnight Mass,” creating a spooky experience in this seven-episode series. Riley Flynn returns to his hometown after serving time in prison and struggles to reintegrate into the devout Catholic community. Suspicion arises when the townspeople suspect that the old priest, Monsignor Pruitt, is closer than they think, especially as the town experiences bizarre events, such as the discovery of every cat on the island being found dead. These events trigger a series of revelations, unveiling more secrets and horror.

Penny Dreadful (2014)
Vanessa Ives is a woman of mysterious origins and has become the most sought-after person by dark and dangerous characters like Lucifer, Dorian Gray, and Count Dracula. In a span of three seasons, these characters from 19th-century fictional works like The Picture of Dorian Gray, Frankenstein, Dracula, and The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde are inserted into the story and given an interesting dark fantasy spin. Castle Rock (2018)
The town of Castle Rock receives a shock when an almost retired warden of State Penitentiary commits suicide on his last day of work. When the new warden takes over, a guard at the prison finds an inmate who is unaccounted for called The Kid. The Kid takes the name of Henry Deaver who was once accused of killing his own father as a child, but currently, he works as a death row lawyer.

Dead Ringers (2023)
An adaptation, Dead Ringers, is based on the novel Twins by Bari Wood. A birthing center becomes a place from the nightmares when a set of twins use underhanded and horrifying actions to rope in wealthy people to fund the formation of their own birthing clinic. Rachel Weisz stars in this gender-bender horror drama, where she plays both the male and female twins.

The show American Horror Stories has been running for 12 years, with the recent 12th Season, Delicate, starring Kim Kardashian. Every season follows a different story and is basically a self-contained mini-series with 3 or 4 episodes. From stories about covenants of witches to a couple trying for a child, American Horror Stories has a variety of horror to spook the viewers with its dark, thrilling, and chill-raising content.

The Order (2019)
Jack Morton is in for a very different from normal college life experience when he becomes a part of the Hermetic Order of the Blue Rose and learns more about the secrets of his family.
