India 3rd topmost nation to administer Covid-19 vaccine doses: Health Ministry

India is now the third topmost country with the highest doses of the novel coronavirus vaccine being administered, the Union Health Ministry said on Sunday morning.

“More than 57.75 lakh beneficiaries have been vaccinated against the Covid-19,” the ministry added. As per the ministry on Sunday morning, India has reported a total number of 12,059 fresh Covid-19 cases, and 78 fatalities in the past 24 hours. The total number of coronavirus infections now stands at 1,08,26,363.

With 78 fresh deaths, the total tally has been recorded at 1,54,996.

With 11,805 discharges in a day, the total number has mounted to 1,05,22,601. India now has 1,48,766 active cases of the novel coronavirus. India reported 11,713 fresh Covid-19 cases and 95 deaths on Saturday.

‘55% of country’s healthcare workers vaccinated’

Meanwhile, Manohar Agnani, additional secretary of the Union health ministry, said on Saturday, “As of 6 pm on Saturday, the total number of persons being vaccinated is 56,36,868, out of which 52,66,175 are healthcare workers. It is 54.7 per cent of the total cohort of healthcare workers who are registered on CoWIN.”

According to the ministry on Sunday morning, a total of 57,75,322 people have been vaccinated so far. It also said that Union health secretary Rajesh Bhushan reviewed the status and progress of the novel coronavirus vaccination with officials of states and union territories via video conferencing, on Saturday, and “urged to exponentially increase the pace of vaccination”.
