CPI (M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury said that the state government should ensure an uninterrupted supply of medical oxygen to all hospitals in the country and provide free vaccines to the states to ensure universal vaccination. Yechury wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi raising this demand.

The Rs 35,000 crore allocated in the budget for Covid defence should be converted into vaccinations. The multi-crore Central Vista project should be abandoned. All unnecessary expenses should be avoided. The money received into the PM Care Fund should be spent transparently. This money should be used for oxygen and vaccines.

The second expansion of Covid is turning into a tsunami. The situation was exacerbated by the Centre’s approach and stance. Oxygen should be stored and delivered to hospitals and patients at all costs. Vaccine production in India should be brought under emergency conditions. The vaccine should be imported from all available sources to prevent further deaths. There can be financial difficulties in making such decisions. Use all the Rs 35,000 crore in the budget and the PM care fund.

Your government will lose its moral right to remain in power if it fails to prevent further deaths by delivering oxygen and vaccines to the people. The current health catastrophe must be avoided and prevented. In the letter, Sitaram Yechury said that your government should fulfil this basic responsibility which has not been done before.
