Kerala journalist Siddique Kappan has been found to be COVID positive in Mathura jail. After being found COVID positive, he was sent to the Mathura Medical College by the jail administration for treatment, where a case of inhuman treatment with him has come to light. Siddique Kappan’s wife has written to the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, demanding the immediate release of Kappan.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has said that he is with the family of journalist Kappan and supports all his demands. Also, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has written a letter to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to provide better treatment for Kappan. Apart from this, 11 MPs from Kerala have also written a letter for immediate hearing in journalist Siddique Kappan.

Kerala journalist Siddique Kappan, who was lodged in the Mathura jail under the UAPA in the Hathras rape case, was injured on April 20 after falling in the bathroom of the Mathura jail, after which he was found to be corona positive the next day. He was then sent to the Medical College Hospital in Mathura. But there has been a case of inhuman treatment with him in the medical college.
Siddique Kappan’s wife Rehanth Kappan, in a letter to the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, claimed that Siddique Kappan’s inhumane treatment of Mathura Medical College is being done.

According to Rehanth Kappan, Siddique has been tied to the cot like an animal for four days; Siddique was chained to his bed in the hospital. Due to which he is not able to eat food, nor is he able to go to the bathroom. Due to which his condition is deteriorating. If the proper treatment is not provided soon, he may also die.
In a letter to the Chief Justice, Rehant Kappan has also demanded the release of Siddique Kappan soon. The letter says that Siddique Kappan’s life is in grave danger. He may also die if he is not given immediate relief. Rehant Kappan has demanded the immediate release of Siddique Kappan from the hospital from the Chief Justice to get relief.

Apart from this, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has written a letter to UP CM Yogi Adityanath urging him to do a humanitarian relationship with Siddique Kappan. Pinarayi Vijayan has said in the letter that Siddique Kappan is in bad condition. Along with COVID, he also has heart and sugar disease, so he should be provided with suitable and better treatment, and he should be admitted to a speciality hospital. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan also mentioned inhuman treatment with Siddique Kappan at Mathura Medical College in the letter.

11 MPs from Kerala have also written to the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court demanding an immediate hearing of Siddique Kappan’s case. Simultaneously, Siddique Kappan has also been asked to be sent to AIIMS Delhi for good treatment. His serious illness is also mentioned in the letter.

Azad Samaj Party president and Bhim Army chief Chandrashekhar Azad has also demanded the release of Siddique Kappan. Chandrashekhar Azad has appealed to the government to relinquish the spirit of hatred and release Kappan. Azad has also said that Kappan is not safe in jail.

Significantly, Siddique Kappan was arrested on October 5 last year while visiting Hathras. Journalist Siddique Kappan and three others going for reporting the Hathras case were detained by the Mathura Police when they were going to their village in Hathras district to meet the family members of the Dalit girl. A Dalit girl was allegedly raped by four men in Hathras and died during treatment.

The police filed sections 124A (sedition), 153A (increasing disharmony between the two groups), 295A (hurting religious sentiments), section 65, 72 of UAPA and section 76 of the IT Act against three others, including Kappan. The case was filed under Kappan is currently lodged in Mathura jail since then.
