Thiruvananthapuram: It was decided in the state cabinet meeting to buy a one crore dose of vaccine. The state is expected to purchase one million doses of the vaccine by next month. The state will buy this 10 lakh dose of vaccine for a price. 70 lakh dose Covishield and 30 lakh dose Covaxin.
The cabinet also decided not to have a lockdown in the state. The decision was taken following the assessment that the imposition of a lockdown would significantly affect the lives of the people. But existing restrictions at the local level will continue.
Meanwhile, the central government had recommended lockdowns in districts where the COVID epidemic is severe in the country. It is recommended to close the districts where the test positivity exceeds 15%. The final decision will be taken in consultation with the state governments. But if the recommendation is implemented, all the other districts in Kerala except Pathanamthitta, Wayanad, Kasaragod and Idukki will go to the lockdown.
There are over one lakh active covid patients in eight states namely Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh and Tamil Nadu. These states account for 69% of the total cases in the country.
