MG Motor India has introduced its upcoming mid-size SUV Astor.
Ahead of the official launch of the car in the country, the company has introduced its features, with Personal Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Level 2 Driving Assistance Systems as the main attractions.
According to reports, the price of The Astor will be announced in September this year.
Personal Artificial Intelligence
The features revealed by Astor show that it is equipped with high-end technology and smart features.
Astor SUV will be accompanied by personal AI assistance and has been designed by US firm Star Design.
Interestingly, Astor will introduce an interactive robot on the dashboard for its personal AI assistance.
Not only that, it will be one of the cheapest offerings in the country to facilitate Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Level 2 Driving Assistance System
Astor’s second attractive feature will be its Level 2 ADAS technology, which will be available for the first time for the midsize SUV segment.
ADAS is an advanced driving assistance system that will have facilities such as adaptive cruise control, pre-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist, lane drop warning, intelligent headlamp control (IHC), rear-drive assist (RDA), and speed assist system.
Astor’s infotainment system will come with in-car connectivity features powered by Jio e-SIM.
Astor model is built on CAAP platform
MG Astor is the company’s first SUV, built on the CAAP platform.
It is likely to have MG One-inspired front grille, new LED headlights, dual-tone alloy wheel, and roof-mounted spoiler.
On the other hand, the MG Astore for the powertrain is expected to have a 1.5-liter four-cylinder mild-hybrid petrol motor, which will generate 141bhp power and about 240Nm peak torque.
The engine can be made available with CVT automatic gearbox as well as a 6-speed manual transmission.
These features can be offered in The Astor
The cabin of MG Astor will remain largely the same as its electric version.
It can have a large MID unit with 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment and an all-digital instrument cluster with a flat-bottom steering wheel. The train will also have i-smart connected tech and sunroof.
Other features will also include pushbuttons, keyless entry, rain-sensing wipers, automatic climate control, wireless chargers, multi-function steering wheels, cruise control, and electrical adjustments for driver seats.
Here’s the potential price
The Astor mid-size SUV could launch between Rs 10 and Rs 16 lakh to give a tough fight in the segment.
It will be kept as the most affordable car in the company’s portfolio and will be placed below the Hector SUV in India.
Other compact SUVs like Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos will face tough competition in the upcoming Astor segment. There is expected to be an interesting competition between them in the market.
