A special team of Nashik police on Tuesday arrested Union Minister for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises Narayan Rane for making controversial remarks against Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray. Police are now preparing to get him treated.

Rane made a statement slapping Thackeray

Rane, who arrived in Raigad last Monday during the Jan Ashirvad Yatra, had talked about slapping Chief Minister Thackeray.

“It is shameful that the chief minister does not know the year of independence. He leaned back to enquire about the count of years of independence during his speech. Had I been there, I would have given (him) a tight slap,” Rane said during his Jan Ashirwad Yatra in adjoining Raigad district on Monday.

Shiv Sena strongly opposed Rane’s statement

Shiv Sena has strongly opposed Union Minister Rane’s objectionable statement. The party has put up posters at several places including Mumbai and described Rane as a chicken thief.

Rane has been booked in three districts FIR

Rane was booked under Sections 500, 505(2), 153(b)(1) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) by the cyber police on a complaint by the local unit chief of Shiv Sena in Nashik over Rane’s statement.

Similarly, an FIR was registered under Sections 153 and 505 and in Mahad on the complaint of Shiv Sena worker following a complaint by Pune Yuva Sena.

The police commissioner had then ordered his arrest.

Rane filed bail plea in Ratnagiri court

Rane filed an anticipatory bail plea in Ratnagiri court after FIR was registered in three districts but the court rejected it.

Rane had then filed a petition in the Bombay High Court seeking an immediate hearing but the high court refused.
