Rapes, molestation and workplace harassment make headlines every day. Despite stringent laws in place, there’s no end to the horrifying crimes. In another gut-wrenching incident, the alleged rape of a minor teenager by 400 people in a span of six months has come to light in the Beed district of Maharashtra.
What comes as a shock is a fact that when the teenager reached the police station for help, the policeman, too, made her a victim of his lust instead of helping.
The matter came to light when the girl got pregnant. Soon after, the police registered a case and arrested three accused.
Father forced the girl into child marriage
Beed Superintendent of Police (SP) Raja Ramasamy said the mother of the 16-year-old girl had passed away two years ago.
After this, to avoid the expenses of the daughter, the father forcibly got her child married eight months ago. After marriage, the girl’s in-laws started harassing her for dowry.
In such a situation, she came back from her in-laws’ house six months ago to avoid the assault.
After denied entry to the house by her father, she started begging
SP Ramasamy said that after the girl returned from her in-laws’ house, the father did not allow her to enter the house. In such a situation, she started begging at the bus stand in Ambajogai to feed her stomach.
This is where her sexual abuse started. Earlier, two people raped her.
When she reached Ambajogai police station to complain about this, a policeman posted there raped her instead of helping.
Reportedly 400 people had raped the girl
After the policemen raped the girl, she broke down and started begging again. During this, around 400 people raped her.
During this, she got pregnant. Recently, a member of the Child Welfare Committee caught sight of her and during interrogation, she narrated the incident.
After this, the teenager was introduced to SP Ramasamy, where she informed him about the whole incident. After this, the police registered the case.
Police arrested three accused
SP Ramasamy said that a case has been registered against the accused in the case under the Child Marriage Act, Rape, Sexual Harassment and Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act (POCSO) Act.
After this, taking action, the police have now arrested three accused. He said that other accused are also being investigated and they too will be arrested soon.
National President of BJP Mahila Morcha demanded harsh punishment
In this case, BJP Mahila Morcha National President Vanathi Srinivasan has demanded strict punishment for the accused.
She tweeted, ‘Very sad to learn about the incident of rape of a minor teenager by 400 people in six months. The law and order situation in Maharashtra is very grim. The Maharashtra government should take strict steps to stop the recurrence of similar crimes. I demand strict punishment to the culprits.’
