Ending the 21-year drought, Harnaaz Sandhu gets crowned Miss Universe 2021 on December 12. The 21-year-old with her beauty coupled with looks managed to become the third Indian to win this coveted title.

Sandhu has now become the talk of the town, and rightly so. People from all over the globe are sending love and blessings to the young talent.

Not to mention, Sandhu’s journey to becoming Miss Universe has been a long and tough one. She started modeling at a young age. Back in 2017, she won the Miss Chandigarh, she went on to win the Miss Femina India Punjab in 2019. She bagged another title in her kitty, that of Miss Diva in 2021.

Apart from modeling, Sandhu has worked in a couple of Punjabi movies, ‘Yaara Diyan Poo Baran.’ and ‘Bai Ji Kuttange’, to name a few.

The highlight of Sandhu’s win is her reply to ‘What advice would she give to a young woman on dealing with the pressure they face today?’.

Sandhu aced the round and replied, “Most immense pressure the youth of today is facing is to believe in themselves, to know that you are unique, and that’s what makes you beautiful. Stop comparing yourselves with others let’s talk about more important things happening worldwide. That is what you need to understand. Come out, speak for yourselves because you are the leader of your life. You are the voice of your own. I believed in myself, and that’s why I am standing here today.”

Sandhu’s confidence coupled with beauty made her win the title and make India proud worldwide.

While everybody is busy rejoicing this long-awaited win, some are expressing their views on in a progressive society where beauty has no longer a particular definition, what is the essence of beauty pageants and what do they mean in today’s world.

Nonetheless, Sandhu’s win has come in big and the youth will, at least, learn a lesson or two, from it.

Apart from Sandhu’s win, what is making headlines is the transwoman fashion designer Saisha Shinde who has designed Sandhu’s glittering gown that she wore during the crowning ceremony. Inspired by Phulkari, the gown has been given a desi touch keeping in mind Sandhu’s roots.

For the uninitiated, she was crowned Miss Universe 2021 by her predecessor Andrea Meza of Mexico, Miss Universe 2020. The newly crowned Miss Universe won among 80 contestants from different countries, and India is so proud of her.

Celebrating this big win, Sushmita Sen, the first Indian to win the Miss Universe title in 1994, congratulated Harnaaz Sandhu through a heartfelt tweet. She took to her Twitter handle and wrote, “Har Hindustani ki Naz Harnaaz Kaur Sandhu”. She added that she is so proud of her.

Subsequently, Lara Dutta, the Miss Universe 2000, also congratulated Sandhu on her win. In a tweet, she wrote, “Congratulations, @HarnaazSandhu03! Welcome to the club! We’ve waited 21 years for this! You make us so proud! A billion dreams come true!”
