Even if you were someone who hated the idea of binge-watching, the pandemic must have made it a ritual for you. Such has been the craze for web series that the ratings and watch time soared in the last two years. Some web series was good enough to leave a mark in people’s minds.
Take, for example, Squid Games and Sex Education Season 2. Even the not-so-interested ones decided to give it a watch due to peer pressure. The result? They ended up hooked to their screens for hours together.
Since 2021 has almost come to an end, the only question most have in mind is what next to watch in the New Year? Will the upcoming year be as worth it as 2021? Well, the answer is yes!
2022 has some of the most exciting shows lined up for release. Here is a look at the top 8 Netflix shows to watch in 2022:
Alice in Borderland season 2
The second season of Alice in Borderland will air in December 2022, two years after the first episodes aired. In November 2021, Netflix revealed the news as part of their virtual Japan Festival event, with the release noted in their upcoming year’s showreel. The new episodes won’t start production until the second half of 2021, with principal photography stretching into the next year. A casting request for extras verified this, with individuals seeking screen time needing to keep this window open. Given all of the special effects required to make this show work, the post-production process may be lengthy, but this will cut down on the amount of time it takes to finish.
It’s back! “Netflix and Shondaland have confirmed Season 2 of Bridgerton, with a March 25 premiere date. In the second season of the “In the spirit of Julia Quinn’s novels, Bridgerton follows Lord Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey) on his search for a suitable wife. When Kate Sharma (Simone Ashley) and her younger sister Edwina (Charithra Chandran) arrive from India, Anthony starts dating the latter sister, and Kate quickly discovers that his intentions for marriage aren’t pure.
Netflix confirmed the renewal of Firefly Lane for a second season on May 26, 2021, via a video featuring the show’s stars. “We can’t wait to continue Tully and Kate’s journey with all of you,” Sarah Chalke added. Given the show’s first-season success, a second season was nearly a foregone conclusion: Firefly Lane had 49 million global viewers in its first 28 days, according to Netflix.
First Kill
Vampires will be here to remain on Netflix, as a new series based on the blood-sucking supernatural creatures’ history is due to premiere on the streaming service.
Instead of a prestige drama from Midnight Mass’ Mike Flanagan, the streamer will give subscribers First Kill, a young adult fantasy.
YA novelist V.E. Schwab and scream queen Emma Roberts star in this sapphic teen drama. Schwab will serve as the show’s writer, producer, and executive producer. Roberts will co-produce the series with her closest friend, Karah Priess, through their media firm Belletrist Productions, which has been described as “aiming to celebrate book lovers.”
Locke and Key Season 3
Tyler Locke, one of the siblings, bid goodbye to his family in the season two finale as he prepares to relocate to Boston for studies. Tyler’s actor, on the other hand, confirmed that this was not his final performance on the show.
“I don’t think his journey ends when he goes at the end of season two,” Connor Jessup told Decider. “It didn’t feel like a fresh chapter to me, but neither did it feel like a conclusion. So Tyler has a few more options.”
Season three is anticipated to involve the rest of the key protagonists, with Emilia Jones portraying Kinsey and Jackson Robert Scott as Bode.
Grace and Frankie season 7
In an April interview with SiriusXM’s Bruce Bozzi, Sheen stated that if everything goes well, filming should wrap in November. Depending on how long post-production takes, the rest of the season might hit theatres in early to mid-2022, but there’s no official release date yet.
Mike Flanagan’s The Midnight Club is an upcoming American horror mystery-thriller streaming television series for Netflix. Flanagan, together with Trevor Macy, is the showrunner and executive producer. The show will debut on Netflix. It’s based on Christopher Pike’s young adult novel The Midnight Club (1994), but it’ll also feature characters from earlier Pike books.
Never Have I Ever season 3
Seasons one and two premiered in April 2020 and July 2021, respectively, therefore we can expect the third season in the first half of 2022 assuming we receive one.
