Scottish comedian Janey Godley was diagnosed with Stage 3 ovarian cancer and had to undergo a Hysterectomy as a result. The world-famous comic shared her feelings saying that she was “absolutely terrified” and “shocked” after her diagnosis and was in a dilemma as to how exactly was she supposed to break the news to her family.
Janey stated in a candid video message posted on Tuesday, “It’s been nine days since my hysterectomy… That, I assumed, would be the end of the story. But it isn’t the end; it is only the beginning.”
In the video, Janey also explained how she thought that the surgery would lead to getting the entire cancerous cells out and that once the scar heals, she would be back on track.
But to the sobs, this is not the case. The comic explained how she now needs to get chemotherapy and radiation and would take a long time and journey to become healthy again.
A toll on mental health
Post this incident Janely also admitted to having short term panic attacks but credited her friend to taking good care of her.
“I’m very afraid,” she continued in the video. I’m not the bravest person on the planet. I’m terrified and in shock, but I’m surrounded by wonderful people, and that’s the best I can say.” She also explained that she has now tried to accept the reality and just move on knowing the fact that she has to live with it for the rest of her life.
The comic turned author also asked fans to support her
“Looks like this cancer means I won’t be working much this year,” Janely stated in the video, “but if you want to support me, you can get my handcrafted cards and books from my website,” she added.
The comic has previously written two books named Handstand in the dark and Frank get the door which was cherished by the fans. It seems that she is trying to encourage fans by still ensuring that they can get something from her to relish.
Concerned fans wish Janely a speedy recovery
After Janely expressed her thoughts about her diagnosis and situation, fans were concerned about her well being. Many wrote to her via social media and other channels to make sure that she doesn’t feel alone.
