The highly anticipated reboot series of the nostalgic series Sex and the City premiered on HBO Max on Thursday, December 9, 2021. It received a lot of negative reviews from fans and critics alike. Critics described the show as “cringe-worthy,” “problematic,” and “confused failures,” to name a few adjectives.
However, for fans who enjoyed the return of their favorite New Yorkers, Carrie, Charlotte, and Miranda, the showrunners may release another season despite the negative reviews. A source told Page Six that “the creative conversations haven’t happened yet, but everyone is feeling good about the show.”
Ultimately, the show’s return is in the hands of actress Sarah Jessica Parker and her co-executive producer, Michael Patrick King.
Sex and the City (1998-2004)
It’s hard to believe it’s been 24 years since Sex and the City first aired on HBO Max in 1998. The show, created by Darren Star and based on a book of the same name, explored the lives of four Manhattan career women in their 30s and 40s. The show featured Jessica Parker as Carrie Bradshaw, Kim Cattrall as Samantha Jones, Cynthia Nixon as Miranda Hobbes, and Kristin Davis as Charlotte York Goldenblatt. The main cast also includes Chris Noth, who famously starred as Jessica Parker’s love interest. When the show ended in 2004, fans mourned the loss of their favorite New Yorker fashionistas.

In addition, two movies were released in the continuation of the HBO Max show, Sex and the City: The Movie (2008) and Sex and the City 2 (2010). The third feature was announced in December 2016, but fans instead got a follow-up miniseries, which is “And Just Like That.
The new miniseries follows Carrie and her best friends in their transformation from women in their 30s to the challenges and tribulations of juggling a career, friendship, and bustling dating life in their 50s. Why is Samantha not in the reboot?
Most of the characters have returned for the reboot, including the iconic Mr. Big. The one who hasn’t returned to And Just Like That is Samantha, played by Cattral.
Samantha’s whereabouts have been a topic of discussion since the cast of And Just Like That was announced in January without Kim Cattrall. SPJ even joined in on the speculation among fans as to why Samantha might not return.
Exceeding all expectations. I am summoning discipline though desperate to suggest "hot/cold"
