Will Olivia Rodrigo Return for High School Musical: The Musical: The Series Season 3?

Fans were convinced that Rodrigo would not return for Season 3 due to her tremendous breakout year and her prioritization of making more music. There is also the off-screen drama that occurred between the Disney stars. But according to the interview she had with the Los Angeles Times, Rodrigo is very much coming back for her role as Nini in High School Musical: The Musical: The Series Season 3. Meanwhile, the 20-year old actor, Joshua Bassett, told GQ that Rodrigo hasn’t spoken to him since driver’s license came out. They play the on-screen couple, Nini and Rocky.

What happened between High School Musical: The Musical: The Series actors Olivia and Josh?

For High School Musical fans, there seems to be no doubt about the person, all Rodrigo’s breakup songs are dedicated to Joshua Bassett, her Disney show co-star,

Olivia Rodrigo - drivers license (Official Video)

Rodrigo’s song driver’s license hints at all the possible love triangle theories that happened between the Disney stars Bassett, Rodrigo, and Work it actress Sabrina Carpenter. She sings:

And you’re probably with that blonde girl; Who always made me doubt; She’s so much older than me; She’s everything I’m insecure about

Yeah, today I drove through the suburbs; ‘Cause how could I ever love someone else?

Guess who has blonde hair and is older than Rodrigo? Sabrina!

But the love triangle speculation reached new heights when Joshua Bassett released his single lie, lie, lie just one week after Rodrigo. The lyrics are as follows:

So they told me all the things that you said; Running all over my name, oh; And you’re acting oh so innocent; Like I’m the only one to blame.

In case that wasn’t enough drama, Sabrina revealed her side of the story in her single Skin, released on January 22, 2021, where she wrote,

There’s no gravity in the words we write; Maybe you didn’t mean it; Maybe blonde was the only rhyme; The only rhyme.

While this is only the story of her single driver’s license, Rodrigo has an entire album to the same effect, and Bassett recently released his new album titled Crisis/Secret/Set Me Free.

Also, Bassett reportedly unfollowed Rodrigo on Instagram ahead of the filming of Season 3.

It’s going to be an awkward year at Eastern High!
