ROSÉ

BLACKPINK member ROSÉ becomes the third K-pop female soloist to hit 10 million likes on YouTube for her debut music video, On The Ground. The first two K-pop female artists to hold this record are her fellow members Jennie and Lisa, respectively.

ROSÉ made her debut in 2016 as the main vocalist of the girl group BLACKPINK under YG Entertainment. Since then she is known for her angelic vocals and strong stage presence. After the main rapper of the group, Jennie made her solo debut in 2018, fans anticipated Rosé to be the next member. She did assure fans that she had already started working on her solo music and couldn’t wait to share it with her fans.

After almost two years of wait, she made her solo debut in March 2021 with her single album R. It consisted of 2 songs, Gone and the lead single On The Ground. It is a pop record with synth-pop, dance-pop, electropop, EDM, alternative rock, soft rock, indie rock, and rock influences.

The physical version went on to debut at Number 2 on the Gaon Album Chart, becoming the best-selling album by a female soloist in the chart’s history. The title track had received mixed reactions from the audience but nonetheless broke many records. On The Ground peaked at Number 4 in South Korea and number 70 on the US Billboard Hot 100, becoming the highest-charting song by a Korean female soloist in the US.

The song also charted at Number 1 on the Global 200 and Global Excl. U.S. charts, making ROSÉ the first Korean solo artist to accomplish so in the history of the charts.

ROSÉ

As if she wasn’t already dominating the pop scene as a part of BLACKPINK, ROSÉ made her presence known as a soloist right at her debut. She also became the first K-pop soloist to perform on the talk show, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. During the same time, she launched her own YouTube channel with the name ROSÉ Official.

The first video to be uploaded was an interview as a part of other promotions for the debut and also to let people know her journey so far. Currently, she has 3.7 million subscribers and 4 videos on her channel. She also happens to be the fourth most followed Korean idol on Instagram with 55 Million followers.

The New-Zealand born singer has previously shared her pain of dropping out of school and coming all the way to South Korea to train and debut as an idol, and the stress of it in the Netflix documentary, BLACKPINK: LIGHT UP THE SKY. She also confessed that she remembers thinking, what if she doesn’t make it and disappoints everybody. Seeing her break multiple records as a BLACKPINK member and as a soloist, it’s safe to say that everyone around her is extremely proud of the person she has become today.
