Murderville is a comedy sitcom based on the British production Murder in Successville, created by Andy Brereton and Avril Spary. Each episode is written by Krister Johnson and follows Detective Terry Seattle (Will Arnett) and a special guest celebrity as they try to solve a difficult murder case. The guest stars are given hints to find out who the bad guy is, but no screenplay is supplied to them. As a result, they’ll have to improvise to gather the information they need.

The fun comedy is propelled by some passionate performances, but critics have varied feelings about the series. Viewers who enjoyed the show’s unusual premise will definitely wonder if it will be renewed for a second season. In that case, here’s all we know about the prospects of Murderville Season 2.

Murderville Season 2 Release Date

On February 3, 2022, the first season of Murderville was released on Netflix. The first season comprises of six episodes, all of which were broadcast at the same time on the streaming service so that viewers could binge watch them all at once. The show’s episodes are between 29 and 35 minutes long.

Murderville Season 2 Release Date

Netflix is yet to make any public announcements about the possibility of a second season. The network, on the other hand, is yet to make a judgement about the show’s future. The streaming service usually spends a few weeks analyzing a show’s appeal and audience statistics before deciding if it deserves a second season. As a consequence, if the series is a hit with the audience, it will be renewed for a second season.

Will Arnett, who stars in the show and also serves as an executive producer, spoke with THR about the possibility of a second season. I’d like to do more if it works and people like it. And if people shrug and say, ‘Yeah, alright,’ that’s wonderful; we had a great time,” he remarked. Arnett’s statements suggest that, while he is open to doing more episodes, the decision will be based on viewer’s demand.

Murderville Season 2 Release Date

As a result, Murderville Season 2 might be announced in the coming months if the program reaches Netflix’s viewing estimates. The first season was shot in the summer of 2021 in Los Angeles and will air in early 2022. For the next second season, a similar production method might be followed. As a consequence, if Murderville Season 2 is made, it might be released in Q1 2023.

Who might appear in Murderville Season 2?

Senior Detective Terry Seattle is played by Will Arnett (‘Arrested Development’). In Murderville, Haneefah Wood (One Day at a Time), Lilan Bowden (Andi Mack), and Phillip Smithey play Chief Rhonda Jenkins-Seattle, Amber Kang, and Detective Darren “Daz” Phillips, respectively. In the first season, Conan O’Brien, Marshawn Lynch, Kumail Nanjiani, Annie Murphy, Sharon Stone, and Ken Jeong also appeared as guests. The main cast members are expected to return for a possible second season. In addition, each episode is likely to feature new prominent guest actors as Terry’s partners.

What is the plot of Murderville Season 2?

In the first season of Murderville, homicide investigator Terry Seattle teams up with celebrity guest stars to investigate murder cases. Meanwhile, Terry is divorcing his wife, Seattle Police Chief Rhonda Jenkins-Seattle. In the season finale, Terry solves the cold case of his former colleague Lori Griffin’s death. Terry’s attempts to reconcile with Rhonda, on the other hand, are eventually unsuccessful.

If recommissioned, the second season might retain the episodic murder mystery pattern of the first, with new guest stars joining Terry in the field. We may also observe changes in Terry’s life as he tries to re-engage with his job after solving the case that has plagued him for years. Terry might be on the lookout for a new  partner in his personal life.

Murderville has received mixed reviews

Murderville, on the other hand, feels less than the sum of its components. It’s astonishing that there’s no visible distinction between comic geniuses and celebrities who aren’t; Terry’s strange commands and the limits of these well-crafted stories make them all only-sorta-funny. Celebrities are not given screenplays to follow, nor are they given the freedom to construct their own identities or direct their own cases.

Even a good actor like Jeong can only get so much laughs by altering the tone and cadence of his voice at Terry’s direction, and even a charming character like Lynch can only do so much to make remarks delivered via earbuds feel like his own. Whodunits of Murderville are frequently enjoyable, with clear, simple solutions. The larger mystery they leave behind is why they aren’t more interesting to watch unfold.

The problem is that many of these gags don’t get enough laughs to justify the half-hour length of the shows. A program that attempts to combine improv humor and a criminal thriller is bound to contain some nonsense. It’s likely that it’s required: a more straightforward Murderville would be too simple to solve, and it wouldn’t have the same appeal as seeing celebrities make a complete mess of themselves. To put it another way, an overly close cut would render Murderville unrecognizable.
