If, like us, your favorite season is ‘Awards’, you’ll be waiting for the nominations list of the year’s most prestigious awards. After months of speculation, we now have the list of films, actors, actresses, and more that have been nominated for the 94th Academy Awards. Actors Leslie Jordan and Tracee Ellis Ross announced this year’s Academy Award nominations early Tuesday.
As the whole world predicted, Jane Campion’s Netflix film The Power of the Dog led the pack with a total of 12 nods, followed by Warner Bros’ Dune with a total of 10 nods. Chloé Zhao won Best Picture last year with Nomadland, so now all eyes are on Campion, the only female filmmaker nominated. She also made history today by becoming the first woman to be nominated more than once for best director. West Side Story and Belfast both earned seven nominations, while King Richard received six nominations.

Also on the list in the best picture category, which was expanded to a full 10 nominations this year, are Apple Original Films’ CODA, Netflix’s Don’t Look Up, Warner Bros’ King Richard, MGM/UAR’s Licorice Pizza, and Searchlight’s Nightmare Alley.

Kristen Stewart earned her first Oscar nod for her remarkable portrayal of the late Princess Diana in Spencer. She is now one of the only three openly LGBTQ actors to receive an acting nomination. As expected, former winner Olivia Coleman received a nod for best actress for her role in Maggie Gyllenhall’s The Lost Daughter. The other nominees in the best actress category are Nicole Kidman (Being The Ricardos), Jessica Chastain (The Eyes of Tammy Faye), and Penélope Cruz (Parallel Mothers). British acting royalty Dame Judi Dench and Jessie Buckley have also been nominated for the best-supporting actress Oscar for Belfast and The Lost Daughter respectively.
The Best Actor nominations went to Javier Bardem (Being the Ricardos), Benedict Cumberbatch (The Power of the Dog), Andrew Garfield (tick, tick, boom!), Will Smith (King Richard) and Denzel Washington (The Tragedy of Macbeth).

In addition to setting a new Grammy record for most awards won by a woman, Beyoncé earned her first Academy Award nomination this year with Be Alive from King Richard. Along with her, the seven-time Grammy Award winner, Billie Eilish, earned her first Oscar nomination for Best Original Song for No Time to Die.
Lady Gaga has been viewed as a frontrunner to land an Oscar nomination this year since the premiere of House of Gucci, which earned her noms in the lead actress category at the Critics Choice Awards, Golden Globes, Screen Actors Guild Awards, and BAFTA Film Awards. Her omission from the Oscars is the biggest snub of the year. The actress failed to receive the best actress nomination for her portrayal of Patrizia Reggiani. The film has only received one nomination in the Make Up & Hairstyling category, with none of its stars getting acting nominations. Jared Leto was expected to receive a supporting actor nomination, but his performance as designer Paolo Gucci also failed to receive a nomination.
The 94th annual Academy Awards will be on March 27, 2022 at Hollywood’s Dolby Theater.
