After a tremendous Season 4 packed with action and tension, Netflix has officially confirmed that The Last Kingdom will return to the streaming service for a Season 5! The official announcement of renewal of The Last Kingdom Season 5 from the show’s creators came way back on July 7, 2020, but the bad news is that it’ll be the show’s final season. Inspired by Bernard Cornwell’s Saxon Stories novels, The Last Kingdom is a retelling of King Alfred the Great’s quest to unite the many separate kingdoms into what would become England.

So far, the show has covered the first eight volumes in Bernard Cornwell’s Saxon Chronicles series. There are 12 novels that have been released, with a 13th on the way.
