All the Battle fans can finally rejoice, Netflix has finally announced the highly anticipated Battle: Freestyle!
Battle: Freestyle is the sequel to the Norwegian dance feature Battle and is based on the book by internationally acclaimed writer Maja Lunde. The film is produced by Pl Red (Paasan) and Christian Frederik Martin (Friland), directed by Ingvild Søderlind, and written by Martina Cecelia, a promising debut writer.
Battle: Freestyle Plot
Amalie and her boyfriend Mikael have only one desire – to become stars in the competitive world of street dance. They eventually get their big shot after a long struggle. Their dance team has qualified for the global finals in France. Life begins to unravel in Paris. It’s a brutal competition. The crew realizes that if they don’t improve their showcase, they won’t be able to compete.
Meanwhile, Amalie is preoccupied with finding her separated mother, who operates a dancing school in Paris. Her stage presence worsens as she messes up the crew’s new moves, causing everyone to get increasingly annoyed. The crew confronts Amalie, insisting that she drop from the tournament if she is unable to attend rehearsals. The world of professional dancing is a harsh place. Amalie must choose between Mikael’s love, her longing for her absent mother, and her passion for dance.
Pål Røed (Paasan) Executive producer and partner said, as quoted on What’s on Netflix, “We are super excited to take Battle´s next chapter to the underground dance scene of Paris challenging our Norwegian characters with some of the world’s most exciting dancers. Continuing our great relationship with Netflix means fulfilling the dream of telling our story to a global audience with a proud worldwide release. Our audience can look forward to a thrilling story full of young drama, fierce competition, the question of who you want to become, and a whole lot of dancing.”
