Outlander Season 6 is finally here after almost a two-year-long ‘droughtlander’.

The Starz show has all the elements, romance, adventure, drama, insane plot twists, time travel, and more, thanks to the rich source material, Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander book series. The first book was published in 1991. Over the years, the novel series grew in popularity, but it wasn’t until US network Starz chose to adapt it for television that Outlander reached new heights.

Outlander follows the story of Claire Randall, a married combat nurse from 1945 who is mysteriously swept back in time to 1743, where she is immediately thrown into an unknown world where her life is threatened. When she is forced to marry Jamie, a chivalrous and romantic young Scottish warrior, a passionate affair is ignited that tears Claire’s heart between two vastly different men in two irreconcilable lives.

Five seasons and a slew of awards later, fans are waiting for the highly anticipated season 6 of Outlander.

Here’s everything you need to know about Outlander Season 6:

When is Outlander Season 6 coming out?

Starz announced on May 9, 2018, that the series had been renewed for two more seasons (Seasons 5 and 6). Season 6 finished filming in June 2021. Last year, during the launch event for Gabaldon’s ninth Outlander novel, Go Tell The Bees That I Am Gone Starz confirmed that Season six of Outlander will air on March 6, 2022, at 9 p.m ET.

Diana Gabaldon’s sixth book, A Breath of Snow and Ashes, will be loosely adapted for Outlander Season 6. Maril Davis, the executive producer of the show, teased in an interview with Entertainment Weekly that “Jamie and Claire keep thinking they’re safe at Fraser’s Ridge, but in Season 6 we’re asking, ‘What do you do when your home turns against you?’ We’ll see how that happens in their own backyard.”

Outlander Season 6 sees a continuation of Claire and Jamie’s fight to protect those they love, as they navigate the trials and tribulations of life in colonial America. Establishing a home in the New World is by no means an easy task, particularly in the wild backcountry of North Carolina—and perhaps most significantly—during a period of dramatic political upheaval. The Frasers strive to maintain peace and flourish within a society which—as Claire knows all too well—is unwittingly marching towards Revolution.

Against this backdrop, which heralds the birth of the new American nation, Claire and Jamie have built a home together at Fraser’s Ridge. They must now defend this home—established on land granted to them by the Crown—not only from external forces, but also from the increasing strife and conflict in the community within their care. For the Frasers and their immediate family, “home” is more than simply a site in which they live, it is the place where they are laying the foundations for the rest of their lives. If Season 4 asked “What is home?” and Season 5 asked, “What are you willing to do to protect your home?” then Season 6 explores what happens when there is disharmony and division among the inhabitants of the home you’ve created: when you become an outsider, or an ‘outlander,’ so to speak, marginalized and rejected in your own home. (as per the official description).

Outlander Season 6 Cast: Who’s the new cast?

The whole Christie family will be introduced in the sixth season.

Here’s the official character description for the new characters:

  • Alexander Vlahos as Allan Christie, travels to the Ridge with his father Tom and his sister Malva. Headstrong and wary of strangers, he is highly protective of his family as they settle into this new environment.

  • Mark Lewis Jones as Tom Christie, a fellow Ardsmuir prisoner and devout Protestant, arrives on Fraser’s Ridge seeking a place to settle. As de facto leader of the Protestant settlers who arrive with him, Tom’s strong opinion and convictions begin to create tension on the Ridge.

The series regulars, Caitriona Balfe as Claire Randall Fraser, Sam Heughan as Jamie Fraser, Richard Rankin as Roger Wakefield, and Sophie Skelton as Brianna Randall, will also return to the show.
