“Did you miss me? “
It’s been almost 5 years since we solved the Final Problem of the pop culture phenomenon that is Sherlock. We certainly miss the high functioning sociopath and his big foes.
Benedict Cumberbatch’s modern interpretation of the iconic literary character Sherlock is a groundbreaking TV series in many ways. From entertainment, intelligence, and humor to classic villains and the best cliffhangers, you name it, we have it. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes has been the subject of a lot of adaptations, but the BBC version is by far the finest. The show was created by Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss and premiered in 2010. After the release of the fourth season in 2017, Sherlock Season 5 has become one of the most anticipated television shows.
Here’s everything you need to know about Sherlock Season 5:
Is there a season 5 of Sherlock?
As you may already know, the BBC hasn’t officially renewed the show yet. But at the same time, it hasn’t been officially deemed canceled yet. Benedict Cumberbatch once denied all the rumors surrounding his retirement as Sherlock by saying, “Nobody has ever closed the door on Sherlock.” Cumberbatch and show creator Moffat, in particular, have shown an interest in returning at some time in the future, although no preparations have been made yet. In January 2019, Gatiss noted that a potential fifth series is still up in the air owing to the clashing schedules of Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman (Watson).
What’s the release date for Sherlock Season 5?
Considering that the first series dropped in 2010, and the next two followed at two-year intervals, you may notice the production time it takes for the creation of one season. As of now, we haven’t got any confirmation on the release window of a potential Sherlock Season 5. Hopefully, the door is still open.
Who’s in the cast of Sherlock Season 5?
Cumberbatch’s Sherlock, Freeman’s Watson, and Gatiss’ Mycroft are the series regulars who are expected to return to the show.
Here’s what he said about the possibility of a Sherlock season 5:
“I’m the worst person to ask on this because I never say never, obviously. But I don’t know. And I’m the worst person to ask because my slate’s pretty, pretty full at the moment, as is Martin Freeman and all the other key players involved. So, who knows? Maybe one day, if the script’s right. And I say ‘the script,’ maybe it could be a film rather than the series. Who knows? But anyway, not for now.”
There are a lot of films Cumberbatch is committed to, including the big ones like Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness in the MCU. However, he said that he’d return in the future to reprise his role as Sherlock Holmes.
Sherlock Season 5 Plot Predictions:
One of the things about the BBC’s Sherlock is that it doesn’t follow conventional storylines or direct adaptations of its original stories. There are still many Sherlock Holmes stories to be told, and we can expect to see any one of them in its full glory.
