On a press circuit, Nathan Lane announced his appearance on Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building‘s second season. The actor has revealed that he will be returning to the series to reprise his role as Teddy Dimas. His reprisal won’t be whole season long as it was earlier but he will be around for a number of episodes. He didn’t exactly tell why Teddy will be back but did point out that there is something very interesting on the way.
According to him, the production is looking for some great guest stars, although we don’t know the full slate of guest stars set to drop into the murderous plot of Only Murders in the Building Season 2, we do know that Shirley MacLaine, Amy Schumer and Michael Rapaport have all signed on.
Created by Steve Martin and John Hoffman, the story revolves around three strangers, Charles-Haden Savage, Oliver Putnam and Mabel Mora who start their own crime investigation podcast when Tim Kono, a resident of 9A in their apartment building, the Arconia, mysteriously dies. The three bonded over their love for true crime podcast “All is Not OK in Oklahoma”.
The Season 1 opens with Charles and Oliver finding Mabel covered in blood, leaning over a dead body. “It’s not what you think,” Mora says and then the episode jumps back to “two months earlier.” Tim Kono dies a mysterious death which was declared suicide by the investigation officers but our trio smells something fishy and started digging in deeper.
Several years ago, Mabel and Tim along with Oscar and Zoey, were a friends group where they cherished The Hardy Boys books and pretended solving mysteries together. One night during a party, Theo Dimas accidently killed Zoey and Tim witnessed that but under the pressure of Theo’s dad, he couldn’t say it aloud and Oscar got charged with murder. But Tim never really stop investigating the matter. In between this, enters the bassoonist neighbor Jan. Tim and Jan started going out together.
Everything was going fine till Jan found an emerald ring in Tim’s apartment concluding that he’s cheating on her, however, it was a piece of evidence Tim acquired in order to take down the Damis father-son duo. To take her revenge, Jan first poisoned Tim and then went down to his apartment and shot him in the head in order to make it look like a suicide. And then she started going out with Charles.
Jan could have gotten away with it if not for our crime enthusiast trio. During their investigation, first Oliver and Mabel found a bassoonist cleaner in Tim’s belongings and later Charles figured it out through a letter Jan wrote to him. Her ‘j’s were identical to the ones in the letters the killer was leaving around the apartment complex. But she got successful in poisoning him before he could do anything, however, a timely trip to the Emergency Room saved him from kicking the bucket.
As Charles and Oliver were celebrating their victory on the roof, they got a text to immediately evacuate the building. As they ran downstairs to get Mabel, they found her leaning over a dead body as shown in the opening scene of the season. Police arrives and arrested the three under suspicion of murder but as we know and eventually they too will, the trio didn’t kill anyone. But who did? Do keep a track for conspicuous casting announcements for this show as it’s most likely our real suspect is among them.
There is no official release date for Only Murders in the Building Season 2, yet it is expected to be in mid-2022 as the filming is already under way.
