A Korean Odyssey Season 2: Is it renewed or canceled?

K-dramas are a hit among the audience today. All thanks to the likes of Crash Landing on You, Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha and Squid Game, that became a huge success and made way for more hit K-dramas. One such drama that left a long lasting impression on the minds of the audience was A Korean Odyssey.

Lee Seung-gi, Cha Seung-won, Oh Yeon-seo, Lee Hong-gi, and Jang Gwang feature in the South Korean fantasy television series A Korean Odyssey, commonly known as Hwayugi in Korean. The drama is a modern spin-off of the Chinese classic 16th-century novel Journey to the West, written by the Hong sisters. It premiered on tvN on December 23, 2017, on Saturdays and Sundays. It has already been quite a few years since the drama had premiered and now fans have been desperately anticipating A Korean Odyssey Season 2.

Is A Korean Odyssey Season 2 happening?

A Korean Odyssey was a huge success with a lot of positive feedback from both audiences and reviewers. The show’s captivating narrative had viewers hooked until the very end, and it quickly became one of Korea’s most popular dramas. The show’s average viewership share by the conclusion of its first season was 6.1 percent, which is a big number. As a result, people began to believe that the sequel will be released soon. That, however, did not occur. A majority of fans expected this, as the K-drama is unlikely to be renewed after its initial run.

The first season did not end on a cliffhanger. In fact the show had a very conclusive ending, putting a stop to all prospects for A Korean Odyssey Season 2. However, owing to the series’ high popularity and enormous fan base, there is a chance that a spin-off series may be released in the near future but that’s not a guarantee.

A Korean Odyssey Season 2 Release Date

After five years, fans are clamoring for a sequel. However, it does not appear like A Korean Odyssey Season 2 will be produced, therefore a release date cannot be predicted. However, if the creators decide to develop a spin-off in the next years, it may debut around 2023 or 2024, if at all it happens.

A Korean Odyssey Plot

A Korean Odyssey tells the narrative of Seon-mi, a young woman. She is capable of seeing ghosts. It proved out, however, to be a curse for her. Seon-mi was constantly aware of the presence of ghosts surrounding her, which prevented her from living a regular life. Her family members, as well as her friends, strive to stay a safe distance from her. Seon- mi’s  grandma on the other hand, gifted her a yellow umbrella with various protective spells. It keeps the ghosts at a safe distance from her.

One day, a guy approached her and asked for her assistance, giving her the duty of retrieving an item. Seon-mi later became the CEO of a real estate agency that deals with haunted houses, and the central theme of the instalment began several years after this incident. Son Oh-Gong, on the other hand, recognized that murdering Seon-mi would grant him immortality, but he had already pledged to defend her no matter what.
