“You ever had that thing where you think you know someone, as well as you could possibly know anyone? And then, one day… you were totally wrong?”
We’ve all been there, right? You think you know someone, then one day a whole mess comes up and it totally catches you off guard. But never with your parents. We all know our mothers, don’t we? We think we have them quite figured out. But do you ever think about the life they had before you were born? Netflix’s latest trailer for the crime thriller drama Pieces of Her asks the same question.
In Netflix’s “edge-of-your-seat thriller series,” Pieces of Her, the plot follows a 30-year old Andy as her one casual afternoon outing explodes in violence, and with it, all of her mother’s past also explodes, fragment by fragment. Will Andy piece together all the little pieces of information she has learned about her mother?
Created by Charlotte Stoudt and Lesli Linka Glatter, Pieces of Her is based on the best-selling novel of the same name by author Karin Slaughter.
Toni Collette as Laura Oliver in Pieces of Her:
Oscar nominee Toni Collette takes the lead in the series as Laura Oliver. After the success of Netflix’s true-crime drama Unbelievable, which earned her an Emmy nomination for Best Actress Collette is once again returning to the platform along with Bella Heathcote, playing her daughter Angy. In a conversation with Vogue, Colette shared that her role as Laura is “more emotionally demanding” and she was “truly exhausted by the end.” “I’d get bored playing more straightforward women. I like people who dig deep and own their lives—the good, the bad, and the ugly. We make so many choices, and now it’s Laura’s time to take responsibility for her own. ” Collette added.
In addition to Collette and Heathcote, Pieces of Her also stars David Wenham (The Lord of the Rings), Jessica Barden (The Lobster), Joe Dempsie (Game of Thrones), Omari Hardwick (Army of the Dead), and Calum Worthy (American Vandal).

The official plot synopsis of Pieces of Her:
“What if the person you thought you knew best turns out to be someone you never knew at all? Andrea knows everything about her mother, Laura. She knows she’s spent her whole life in the small beachside town of Belle Isle; she knows she’s never wanted anything more than to live a quiet life as a pillar of the community; she knows she’s never kept a secret in her life. Because we all know our mothers, don’t we? But all that changes when a trip to the mall explodes into violence and Andrea suddenly sees a completely different side to Laura. For nearly thirty years she’s been hiding from her previous identity, lying low in the hope that no one would ever find her. But now she’s been exposed, and nothing will ever be the same again. The police want answers and Laura’s innocence is on the line, but she won’t speak to anyone, including her own daughter. Andrea is on a desperate journey following the breadcrumb trail of her mother’s past. And if she can’t uncover the secrets hidden there, there may be no future for either one of them.”
