The show is based on T. Christian Miller and Ken Armstrong’s Pulitzer Prize-winning 2015 article An Unbelievable Story of Rape. It also draws from the writers’ previous work, A False Report (2018).

After learning of her pregnancy, her husband flies to Berlin with his cousin on the orders of their rabbi to try to find her.
