Whatever the case may be, dark comedies were, are and will be a hit, at least this is what we can expect.

One such dark comedy that has been ruling hearts and earning accolades worldwide is Barry. On March 25, 2018, HBO launched Barry, an American dark comedic criminal television series produced by Alec Berg and Bill Hader. Since then, there has been no looking for the series as it continues to get renewed and earn applause.

Barry Season 3 Release Date

Fans had to wait for a really long time for a confirmation about the premier of Barry Season 3. Now fans can finally rejoice and have a sigh of relief, as the show will be returning for a season 3. In February 2022, HBO announced that the series would return on Sunday, April 24, 2022.

Barry Season 3

The long wait in the announcement was due to the pandemic which delayed the production of the show as was the case with many other shows. When COVID-19 struck, the show was in pre-production, and everything had to be stopped. When the cast was alerted about the delay, Henry Winkler told PeopleTV in April 2020 that they were all prepared to have their second table read. It wasn’t until the summer and fall of 2021 that the series was able to begin production and filming.

Adding a cheery on the top, the creators of the show have also confirmed that the show is up for a Season 4 as well. In a January 2021 interview, Bill Hader said that he had already written Season 4 in its entirety, despite the fact that production had not yet begun.

Barry Season 3 Plot

It’ll almost certainly be dreary and dark. Barry Season 2 concluded on a sour note, as you may recall. There’s no doubting that the titular character is a terrible person with a big B. As demonstrated by the monastery full of criminals that he slaughtered in cold blood out of wrath at his handler Fuches, he is not a rehabilitated killer; he is a killer-killer (Stephen Root). Furthermore, he permits Gene Cousineau (Winkler), his acting instructor, to be jailed for the death of Cousineau’s girlfriend—a crime that Barry actually committed. Cousineau discovers that his pupil is a cold-blooded assassin in the last minutes of the show, exclaiming, “Oh my god,” as the credits roll.

According to Variety, Hader teased something ambiguous when collecting an award from USC in April 2021: “So much of it boils down to following your emotions and remaining loyal to your characters. You get both amusing and terrible results when you do it this way.”

“Really risky stuff [coming], but the scary stuff makes for the most fantastic stuff,” Anthony Carrigan, alias Noho Hank, claimed in an interview with PopCulture.com.

Will Barry Season 3 introduce any new characters?

Barry Season 3

Possibly, although no new casting has been reported as of yet. Of course, Barry and Gene will return to the screen for the season. Barry’s fiancée Sally (Sarah Goldberg) had an unexpected win on stage, while Fuches and Noho Hank both survived Barry’s rampage and are still in the mix. So these characters will also respire their roles. But the audience can expect new faces as well.

For the unversed, Barry follows Barry Berkman, a hitman who is a discharged Marine from Cleveland. He flies to Los Angeles, lonely and disillusioned with life, to assassinate a target and ends up “finding an embracing community among a bunch of eager aspirants inside the L.A. theatrical scene.”

Awards and nominations

Barry has earned widespread praise, with the majority of praise going to its writing, humor, characters, and performances (particularly Hader’s and Winkler’s), and has received numerous awards, including 30 Primetime Emmy Award nominations; Hader won Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series twice, and Winkler won Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for his performance in the first season. Winkler, Root, and Carrigan were all nominated for Emmys for Outstanding Supporting Actor for the second season, while Goldberg was nominated for Best Supporting Actress.
