Wonka Plot: What’s it about?

The official synopsis of  Wonka hasn’t been released yet. As of now, we know that Wonka is set to explore what made Willy Wonka the person we saw in the first film. It is much like the origin-movies Cruella (2021) and Cinderella (2021), the Disney reboots.

In the upcoming film, we are going to see a much younger version of Willy Wonka. During an interview with Collider in 2018, producer David Heyman confirmed that the upcoming movie is set before the events of Roald Dahl’s book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

“We are still trying to figure out how to tell that story, what the story is, it’s a prequel, it’s not a sequel. What makes Willy — when we find him at the chocolate factory doing the golden ticket, where is he before that? What leads him to that place where he’s locked himself away? … It’s how does he get there? So we’re playing around with that, “he said.

Who is Willy Wonka?

Willy Wonka is a fictional character from Roald Dahl’s children’s novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, published in 1964, and its 1972 sequel, Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator. He’s the mysterious, magical owner of the Wonka Chocolate Factory. He’s a bit strange and eccentric, but he has a cheerful personality. Wonka’s character has been featured in a number of films.

Do we need to watch the original movies before watching Wonka?

No, it isn’t quite necessary to watch the older movies. Wonka sure is a prequel, but it’ll act more like a reboot. Chalamet’s Wonka is a much younger version of Willy Wonka and is entirely different from the old interpretations.
