Set in Johannesburg, South Africa, the reality show follows a group of Africa’s young, affluent media personalities, socialites as they “work and play, flirt and feud.” The show is produced by Urban Brew Studios with co-creators and executive producers, Martin Asare Amankwa and Peace Hyde. “It’s really exciting to be able to show the world an exclusive look into the lives of Africa’s top celebrities and socialites. Young, Famous & African is a depiction of a world that has never been seen before, highlighting authentic stories and unrivaled access to some of the most celebrated celebrities,” show creator and producer Asare Amankwa shared the excitement for the show in a statement.

Netflix revealed that Young, Famous, & African is set for a global premiere on March 18, 2022, in 190 countries with more than 214 million subscribers.

Netflix’s inaugural African reality show is officially described as “unscripted and unapologetically African” and the streaming platform promises to “bring viewers top-tier, best-in-class variety entertainment through the lens of some of their favorite A-list personalities from all over the African continent.”

The first look promises glamor, glitter, and gloss, as well as relationships, rivalries, and drama. In a statement obtained by Tribune Online, Asare Amankwa reflects on the show’s premise. “This has been a labor of love that has finally become a reality. Growing up in the UK. There were no glitzy and sexy images of Africa, all we saw were the stereotypical images that has been propelled in the media for years.

The show has an unapologetic African cast including media personalities, socialites, and artists like Khanyi Mbau, Diamond Platnumz, Annie Macaulay-Idibia, Innocent “2baba” Idibia, Nadia Nakai, Swanky Jerry, Zari “The Boss Lady”, Naked DJ, Kayleigh Schwark, and Andile Ncube.
