Is The Vampire Diaries leaving Netflix?

Netflix always has a set contract when it publishes a series or a movie. The Vampire Diaries had its last season premier on Netflix in 2017. Given that Netflix had a contract of 5  years, March 2022 was when the series should leave the platform. But surprisingly the series has not been marked ‘leaving soon’ by Netflix and neither did it get mentioned under the name of series leaving Netflix in 2022 by the company itself.

According to What’s on Netflix, The Vampire Diaries is not going to leave Netflix this March. The platform has decided to keep the show for a little longer since the popularity of show tends to be massive and also it accounts to  be one of the most watched shows on Netflix.

What is The Vampire Diaries all about?

If you are living under a rock and hasn’t watched the series yet, it takes place in the fictional town of Mystic Falls, Virginia, which has a long history of unexplained events. It follows Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev), a youngster who has recently lost her parents in a car accident, as she falls in love with Stefan Salvatore, a 162-year-old vampire (Paul Wesley).

As Stefan’s enigmatic elder brother Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder) reappears with a plot to resurrect Katherine Pierce (also played by Dobrev), a vampire who was their love interest and looks just like Elena, their connection becomes increasingly difficult. Despite Damon’s initial resentment of his brother for forcing him to become a vampire, he eventually reconciles with Stefan and falls in love with Elena, resulting in a love triangle between the three.

Elena’s younger brother Jeremy Gilbert (Steven R. McQueen) and aunt Jenna Sommers (Sara Canning), her best friends Bonnie Bennett (Kat Graham) and Caroline Forbes (Candice King), their mutual friends Matt Donovan (Zach Roerig) and Tyler Lockwood (Michael Trevino), Matt’s older sister Vicki Donovan (Kayla Ewell), and their history teacher, vampire hunter Alaric Saltzman (Matthew Davis), are among the other people who are involved in the storyline. The town’s politics are orchestrated by descendants of the original founding families, all comprising a “Founders’ Council.” They guard the town mainly from vampires and other supernatural threats such as werewolves, witches, hybrids, and ghosts.
