Remember last year, when British acting royalty Kate Winslet’s HBO series arrived out of nowhere and she casually won all the Best Actress Awards? We weren’t surprised at all; all that gold and silverware rightly belonged to her alone. Give Kate Winslet the character of a mourning, melancholic, flawed woman haunted by her past and present and she will nail it.
Written and created by Brad Ingelsby for HBO, the American crime drama limited series Mare of Westtown features Winslet as the titular character, Marianne “Mare” Sheehan. With its story taking place in a small town near Philadelphia, the series is at once a murder mystery and an intimate portrait of life in small, closed communities through the eyes of Mare, a detective haunted by her own past.
Seeing Kate Winslet try to solve a murder mystery isn’t something we see every day, so it isn’t a surprise we need more of it. Despite the series’ being promoted as a limited series, the viewers have been begging for Mare of Easttown Season 2. So, will there be a Season 2 for Kate Winslet’s Mare?

Here’s everything you need to know about Mare of Easttown Season 2:
Will there be a Mare of Easttown Season 2?
The series debuted on HBO in April 2021 and premiered its finale on May 30, with WarnerMedia boasting about how the finale was the most-watched episode of any HBO or HBO Max series in its first 24 hours, which even led to the crash of the streaming platform. Over the weekend, Mare of Easttown attracted four million subscribers to HBO and HBO Max, while digital platforms pulled in three million viewers. (Via Deadline) . In addition, Mare of Easttown headlined the award season with Kate Winslet and supporting actors winning big, including Emmys.

In an interview with Esquire ahead of the season one finale, creator Ingelsby stated that Mare of Easttown is a “closed story” and that they never “talked about retuning,” He continued, “But I think if we could ever crack a story that was as emotional and surprising, then I think maybe there’s a conversation. I don’t have that in my head right now, but I mean, listen, I love Mare. If we could ever give her a great season, I would certainly consider it. I would only do it if I was convinced we could make it great, though. I wouldn’t do it just because you have a chance to do it. I would want to make sure that it was as rich and compelling as I hope this season has been.”

In addition to this, Winslet herself has confirmed that she is open to Season 2 and that she would love to play Mare again.
“I would absolutely love to play Mare again,” she told TVLine when asked about a potential Season 2 in May 2021.
The actress spoke with Deadline about a potential Season Two of Mare of Easttown after the series grabbed a whopping 16 nominations in July. “I absolutely believe there’s more chapters to her story. However, just because the story has touched people that doesn’t necessarily mean creatively we can do it again. But it doesn’t mean closing doors; we’re opening doors, exploring what’s behind the doors.” she added.
Considering all this, it is safe to hope for Mare of Easttown Season 2. The door is still open.

When will Mare of Easttown season 2 release?
Unfortunately, there has been no official announcement of Season 2 of Mare of Easttown yet. So, it is hard to predict the release date of a potential Season 2, but if it gets renewed for Season 2 this year, we can expect a release date later in 2023.
Mare of Easttown Plot: What can we expect?

Mare of Easttown closed its chapter of Season 1 without leaving any plot threads for potential Season 2. The murder mystery has been solved, and we now know who killed Erin McMenamin. The show ended with Mare preparing to confront her own personal trauma of losing her son to suicide, which she was ignoring completely. Season 2 might feature a mare who is embarking on a personal journey by acknowledging her past and not letting it define her.
Meanwhile, Winslet, in an interview with The Guardian, hinted about the potential plot of Season 2, which covers the police brutality cases in the U.S., if the series ever gets renewed, “I don’t know if I’m going to be playing Mare again. But if we were to do a second season, then for sure these atrocities which have existed in the police force here and in America will find their way into the stories we tell. One hundred percent. You can’t pretend these things haven’t happened,” she said.

Mare of Easttown Season 2 cast: Who will be in it?
Since the Oscar-winner Kate Winslet is open to a second season, she will, of course, reprise her role as the titular character, Mare Sheehan. The other major supporting cast, including Jean Smart as Helen, the mother of Mare; Julianne Nicholson as Lori Ross, Mare’s childhood best friend; Angourie Rice as Siobhan Sheehan, Mare’s daughter; David Denman as Frank Sheehan, Mare’s ex-husband and Siobhan’s father; Sosie Bacon as Carrie Layden, the mother of Drew, Mare’s grandson and ex-girlfriend of Kevin, Mare’s late son; and Izzy King as Drew, Mare’s grandson, are expected to return for Mare of Easttown Season 2.
Evan Peters may not return as Detective Colin Zabel for Mare of Easttown Season 2 considering how things went down in the first season finale.
