Netflix’s 1899: Everything you need to know

Jantje Friese and Baran bo Odar are coming back together once again with another huge project, 1899. Last time they worked together, it was on the German TV series by the name of Dark which created a massive stir among the audience due to its time travel based storyline. Now when the duo is working together again, we all can expect something mind boggling to show up. 1899 is a multilingual and multicultural period drama with a certain horror and thriller aspect in it. So let’s dive into the details and know what all has surfaced regarding the upcoming show till now. 

1899 Trailer and Teasers

There hasn’t been any announcement of the trailer release yet. However, Netflix released a small teaser a while back. The teaser doesn’t give a lot about the series, of course, but what can be deciphered is that the story is sea-based, with ships and a constant eerie environment. With the trailer itself it can be known that the series will be a multilingual project with people from diverse backgrounds like English, Spanish, Polish, German, Portuguese, Cantonese, etc. Here’s the link to the first teaser of the series:

1899 Cast

The casting was started back in 2020 when it was announced that Emily Beecham has been casted and she’ll play the role of Maura Franklin. Emily has earlier been seen in Little Joe, for which she bagged Best Actress award at the Cannes Film Festival. After Beecheam, Andreas Pietschmann also joined the ensemble cast of 1899 and will be playing Eyk Larsen in the upcoming project. Since then, new members have constantly been added to the cast. 1899 Plot

Taking into account Jantje Friese and Baran bo Odar’s compined venture, Dark, we can expect 1899 to something very unique, out of the box and something viewership will go crazy upon. 

As per the official synopsis released by Netflix, the original series follows a migrant steamship heading west to New York from London. The passengers, from diverse backgrounds, ethnicities and languages share the same hope for a new century that is about to start and a new life waiting for them in another land. But things will start to complicate when they will encounter another ship in the open sea which will shatter all their dreams and hopes and turn the whole journey into a horrifying nightmare.

There hasn’t been any announcement to give a specific release date but an estimation is that it will be out some time in Autumn/Winter 2022. However, announcements of such kind can be expected soon as it’s been a while since the shooting has wrapped up.
