TAEYEON charts at number 1 on Billboard K-pop 100! 

On February 14, 2022, TAEYEON released her third studio album, INVU, with the lead single of the same name. The song debuted at number 15 on the Billboard K-pop 100 chart and climbed up to number 1 with the most streaming and TV airplay data.

INVU is TAEYEON’s first number 1 on the chart. With this, she has a total of 6 top 10 songs on the chart. She has previously charted in the top ten with Spark in 2019, Happy in 2020, Weekend in 2021, and Can’t Control Myself in 2022. Her recent release Step Back as a member of SM Entertainment’s new girl group, GOT the beat, ranked at number 7.

Her incredible achievement has now made her the only female artist with the most top-ten songs, second to IU, who has nineteen. Overall  TAEYEON and RAIN are tied for the same place with six top ten songs each, on the chart.

TAEYEON debuted as the leader, main vocalist, and visual of the girl group, Girls’ Generation in 2007, under SM Entertainment. Girls’ Generation also known as SNSD went ahead to become one of the greatest artists K-pop had ever seen. Earning the title of “The Nation’s Girl Group”, SNSD still ranks at the top 10 in the girl group Brand Reputation Rankings almost every month even though the group has been inactive for 4 years now. The group isn’t disbanded but is currently on a hiatus. As of now the members are focusing on their solo activities but have assured fans that one day they will come back as a whole group.  

TAEYEON made her solo debut in 2015 with the extended play I, with the title track of the same name. Her debut song peaked at number 1 on the Gaon Digital Chart, and since she hasn’t seen back. In 2016 she returned with the EP Why, which peaked at the top on the Gaon Album, Chart. In May 2020 she released her digital single Happy. The song reached number 4 on the Gaon Digital Chart.

Since her debut, TAEYEON is known for her wide musical range and talent. Several major South Korean producers have expressed their admiration for her vocal abilities. In 2015 she was named as the best K-pop vocalist by 50 anonymous K-pop officials. She has also been named the best female vocalist in their twenties by twelve Korean music companies in 2016.

TAEYEON is not only adored by her fans but also recognized as the inspiration for numerous K-pop artists including TWICE’s Nayeon, MAMAMOO’s Moonbyul, WJSN’s Luda, Weki Maki’s Lucy, LOONA’s Heejin, Heize, CLC’s former member Elkie, and Lovelyz’s Jiae. Boy band BTS has revealed that TAEYEON was the inspiration for their 2014 single Boy In Luv. Not only singers and idols, but she has also influenced people to become actors. On MBC’s Radio Star, The Red Sleeve star, Kang Hoon told the host that TAEYEON was the reason he decided to pursue acting. Her popularity among celebrities has gained her the nickname of “Idol of Idols”.

INVU isn’t TAEYEON’s only song on the chart right now. She has a total of 7 songs up right now – Weekend at number 22, Can’t Control Myself at number 24, Some Nights at number 46, Four Seasons is at number 86, and Set Myself On Fire at number 96.
