On March 10, 2022, reports started to come that Suzy, also known as Bae Suzy, is set to lead the upcoming Netflix series, The Girl Downstairs (title under works).
Suzy’s agency, Management SOOP, was quick to respond to the rumors, and stated, “Suzy is reviewing the offer to star in the Netflix series The Girl Downstairs.”
The Girl Downstairs is a popular Naver webtoon created by Songah Min. The webtoon follows a former idol, Lee Du Na, and college student Lee Won Joon, who somehow end up sharing the same roof. Lee was the main vocalist of a group called, Dream Sweet, but suddenly decided to retire from her idol life and joined Minsong University. She has joined the Department of Theater and Film. Lee Du Na has been described as an unpredictable girl with “gorgeous looks and unique aura”.
If Suzy accepts the offer, she will be playing the role of Lee Du Na, and this project will also mark her first television appearance since in Start Up (2020).
Suzy is a singer, songwriter, and actress under Management SOOP. She made her musical debut in 2010 as a member of the girl group, Miss A, under JYP Entertainment. She quickly gained attention due to her breathtaking visuals and vocal skills.
Suzy debuted as a solo artist in 2017 with the album, Yes? No? The pre-release single, Pretend, achieved an all-kill on music charts. She released her second album, Faces of Love, in January 2018. This time again her pre-release track, Someone Else, topped all the charts.
Suzy made her acting debut in the hit teen drama, Dream High. Her first big-screen appearance was in 2012 in the successful film Architecture 101. Her remarkable performance in the movie earned her the title of, The Nation’s First Love. She has since appeared in multiple dramas and movies as the leading lady including Wonderalnd (2021), The Flower Man (2015), Uncontrollably Fond (2016), and Vagabond (2019).
Suzy quickly became one of the most in-demand endorsers in the market. She had a slew of endorsement deals in the palm of her hands, ranging from clothing, cosmetics, basic commodities to soju. This led to her being dubbed the, CF Queen. In 2013, alone she earned a total of 10 billion won from over 14 endorsements. Suzy was also nicknamed, Human Dior, for constantly being spotted wearing the brand’s clothes and using its accessories.
Recently, Suzy has wrapped up the filming for the Coupang Play original, Anna. The series is likely to premiere later this year. She also made her a singing comeback after 4 years with the digital single, Satellite on February 14, 2022. She also released a music video for the track featuring Street Woman Fighter dancer Monika.
The track debuted on number 65 on the worldwide iTunes song chart. It also ranked on the iTunes Top Song chart top 10 in various countries including Vietnam, Indonesia, and Singapore. The song also managed to rank in iTunes Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Spain.
The Girl Downstairs is set to be directed by Lee Jung Hyo, who has worked on hit dramas including Crash Landing on You, Life on Mars, and Romance is a Bonus Book.
