Blue Bloods Season 14: Will the show be delayed?

Right now, it seems like the chances of a delay in the release of the new season are just around the corner. Especially when we consider that the ongoing writer’s strike seems far away from reaching a conclusion before the production of the show begins, which usually starts around June to August. Given the circumstances, it is not unreasonable to speculate that CBS will release a new fall schedule soon to address the concern.

The revised schedule may clarify some issues regarding the network’s realistic goals because it is fair to say that when it released the fall 2023 lineup earlier this year, CBS didn’t foresee or factor in the potential impact of the ongoing writers’ strike. According to the latest report by Deadline, CBS seems to be taking measures and are looking at alternatives, George Cheeks, President and CEO of CBS and Chief Content Officer, said during a keynote at Banff moderated by Deadline’s Peter White.

“We wanted to build our schedule for when the world goes back to normal,” Cheeks said. “Once we had done that, once we locked it in, we spent a lot of time focusing on what it’s going to look like.” He elaborated on the revised CBS fall scheduling plans, which are expected to be officially revealed soon. “First of all, obviously it’s going to be very reality-heavy,” he said.  As for the scripted fare, “We’re looking at some of the Paramount+ originals,” Cheeks said.

“We’re spending a lot of time looking at research and figuring out which are the ones that A, have the best shot keeping our audience engaged but also that could really help drive awareness.” He wouldn’t specify which Paramount+ titles they are targeting but provided a hint: “One of them won’t surprise you because it may have been on CBS before.” Additionally, Cheeks was also questioned about the studio’s discussions with the leading Hollywood guilds and the ongoing WGA strike.

He discussed the variations between the broadcast and streaming economic models and referred to the recently achieved preliminary deal with the DGA as “helpful.” After looking at these official statements, it’s pretty much clear to assume that the content of the CBS schedule can be changed and that most of the shows, including Blue Bloods, might be put on halt for their production to resume sometime later and eventually be released by late 2023 or even some time in 2024!

We’ll just have to wait and see what happens next to the series pickup, which was tied up in difficult negotiations with CBS pushing for significant budget cuts, including 25% for above-the-line talent, including actors, and how the schedule is predicted to be changed in the coming days.

Blue Bloods Season 14: What to expect from the new season?

The official premise of the series is “Blue Bloods is a drama about a multi-generational family of cops dedicated to New York City law enforcement. Frank Reagan is the New York Police Commissioner and heads both the police force and the Reagan brood.”

Even though it is far too early to predict future storylines, one thing is certain: The new season is likely to maintain the show’s core by picking up the plot from the finale episode, “Forgive Us Our Trespasses,” which followed Danny and Baez teaming up with Danny’s old partner to find a copycat killer emulating a criminal’s murders from a previous case. Frank and Mayor Chase battle over how best to handle the city’s rising homeless population.

Blue Bloods has dominated Friday nights since its premiere and remained an important anchor for CBS’ winning lineup,” said Amy Reisenbach, President of CBS Entertainment. “Led by the outstanding Tom Selleck, and an incredible cast and creative team, viewers continue to embrace the Reagans, their law enforcement family, and the series’ dramatic storytelling. We can’t wait to pull a chair up to the Reagan family dinner table for another fantastic season.”
