The Chi Season 6: What is the release date?
We regret to inform the readers that the highly anticipated sixth season of “The Chi,” will not be available anytime soon and certainly not in June 2023.
If you recall, back on August 18, 2022, the series was renewed for season six before the conclusion of season five. Since then, the exact premiere date has yet to be announced, but for the readers who are curious to know more, we can assure you that the next season might be aiming to release sometime later this year or even in 2024!
We know you might be curious to know why there has been such a major delay in its release. Firstly, this kind of gap is typical for a show of this caliber to wrap up its meticulous production on schedule, especially when the current writer’s strike has caused a major delay in its release as the production of new episodes has been halted. Yes! It’s a sad update, but it’s true!

The Chi Season 6: What happened to the production?
Due to the ongoing strike, this beloved Showtime drama had to cancel a location shoot due to WGA picketing. The series, which is filming in Chicago, was assumed to resume production later on. But it seems like the revised plans were short-lived, as Deadline has confirmed that the decision to stop production was finalized after a second consecutive day of shooting was disrupted by WGA strike-related picketing.
The report indicated that the eight episodes from Season 6 had been completed, as they were shot before the strike started. The remaining episodes of the season were slated to shoot for another couple of weeks from finished scripts but were stopped weeks before completion. It is unclear when production will resume. Reps for Showtime and The Chi producer 20th Television have declined to comment on this matter.
This makes the rumors about the season getting split into two parts more credible so that the fans get fresh episodes sooner! We’ll just have to wait and see what the creators might be planning behind the scenes in order to get the schedule fixed. To be honest, continuing the production at this time seems completely out of the question because picketers were sent a call to action through social media that sent picketers to the address ahead of filming, ultimately shutting down production.
Last but not least, we speculate that the filming for the remaining episodes might begin sometime later this year once the strike concludes. Of course, this is just speculation, and we’ll have to wait sometime for the network to confirm these details in the near future. Until then, the fans should be hopeful and pray for the best outcome so that they can get the sixth season as quickly as possible! *Finger’s Crossed*
The Chi Season 6: What can the fans expect from the new season?
On Chicago’s south side, an average day finds kids prepping for school as their parents head off to work, young adults trying to make a living, and elders keeping an eye on things from their front porches. But in this tough neighborhood, real dangers threaten daily to squelch dreams, and the simplest decisions can have life-or-death consequences. From Emmy winner Lena Waithe, The Chi is a timely coming-of-age drama series centered on a group of residents who become linked by coincidence but bonded by the need for connection and redemption.
Much to viewer’s delight, ET Online recently spoke with Emmy winner Lena Waithe, who gave some insight into the next chapter as she teased that the upcoming season will be “unlike any other season of The Chi before.” “It’ll be a very unique season; everybody will find out why very soon,” the Hillman Grad production founder shared. “It’s a very exciting development, and it’s because of the love, the energy, and the loyalty of our Chi community. We don’t even call ’em fans, it’s a community.”
“I feel like it’s probably one of the most emotional seasons. I know last season was very emotional, but this season’s even more emotional,” she added. “And we heard from the fellas, they want a little bit more… grit, there is that as well. And, you know, it’s The Chi, everybody’s not gonna survive this season.” “Everybody won’t survive,” Waithe ominously warned. “It’ll be a very unique season, unlike any other season we’ve had before. And it’s probably one of the most emotional seasons that I’ve been a part of to date. And I’ve been there the whole time! So season 6, it’s coming.”
The Chi Season 6: Who will return in the cast?
The cast members from the fifth season who are expected to return in the new season are as follows: Jacob Latimore (Like a Boss), Alex Hibbert (Moonlight), Yolonda Ross (Treme), Shamon Brown Jr., Michael V. Epps, Birgundi Baker, Luke James and Curtiss Cook (West Side Story). Some of the guest stars who might return include Kandi Burruss, La La Anthony, Jason Weaver, and Iman Shumpert, along with Nia Jervier (Dear White People, Twenties), Carolyn Michelle Smith (Russian Doll, House of Cards), L’lerrét Jazelle, and Antonyah Allen.
There can be some new additions and removals from the cast, which will be disclosed once the release date draws close. The Chi, created and executive produced by Lena Waithe and executive produced by Common, is a coming-of-age drama set in the South Side of Chicago. Along with Waithe and Common, the series is executive produced by showrunner Justin Hillian, Aaron Kaplan, Rick Famuyiwa, Derek Dudley and Shelby Stone of ID8 Multimedia, Rishi Rajani, CEO of Hillman Grad Productions, and Jewel Coronel.
How many episodes will be there in The Chi Season 6?
As mentioned above, the show is currently in production on 10 episodes in Chicago. So, the official episode count for the next season is the same as the prior season in order to be consistent with the plotlines and character arcs that the show has mastered to develop within ten episodes. The network has not released the official title and synopsis in order to avoid early spoilers!
