What is the production status of Emily in Paris Season 4?

Emily in Paris Season 4: When will the new season release on Netflix?

Drum rolls, please, because there’s some good news your way!

On February 25, 2023, writer Joshua Levy tweeted a photo of receiving Netflix’s note for joining the writing team of season 4. This suggests that the screenwriters and dialogue writers of the show are working hard to kickstart the production of Emily in Paris season 4.

If we take into consideration the production schedules of Emily in Paris seasons 2 and 3, we expect the filming process of the brand-new installment to end by season 2023. The filming might conclude even before that since, in September 2022, Variety reported that Emily in Paris seasons 3 and 4 are filmed back-to-back. Be that as it may, the report was proven false later. However, that does suggest that even while Emily in Paris season 3 was in the production process, the planning for the consequent season had already begun.

Interestingly, season four of Emily in Paris was renewed at the same time season three was. Lily Collins, the lead of the sartorial show, made the announcement through an Instagram post:

“Woke up early to give you some VERY exciting news,” she captioned a photo of herself wearing a very on-brand pyjama set. “@emilyinparis is back for Season 3… AND wait for it, Season 4!!!!!

“I can’t tell if Emily would love or hate this announcement outfit but she’d be screaming either way. Truly love you all, thanks so much for the incredible support. Seriously cannot wait for more. Merci Beaucoup!!…”

What can we expect to happen in Emily in Paris season 4?

Emily in Paris Season 4: When will the new season release on Netflix?

*Spoiler alert*

The previous season of Emily in Paris took flight with a plethora of heavy turbulences that shook Emily on personal as well as professional fronts. In the wake of Savoir’s parent company withdrawing all support in the company operations held in France, Emily’s boss Madeline (Kate Walsh), decides to head back home to Chicago, while Emily makes the brave decision to stay in Paris, which lands her back her old job at Sylvie’s (Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu) new firm.

On a more personal level, Emily and her boyfriend Alfie (Lucien Laviscount) were doing great until Gabriel (Lucas Bravo) and Camille (Camille Razat) came into the picture. The duo’s engagement was not only disastrous for them, but it also rippled the silent and peaceful waters of the relationship between Emily and Alfie, with the latter leaving her, one can only assume, forever. Emily in Paris Season 3 concludes on an exciting cliffhanger as Gabriel reveals Camille’s pregnancy while confessing his present feelings for Emily, who also does not abstain from reciprocating her feelings for him.

In a conversation with TVGuide concerning what turn the plot will take in season 4, the creator Darren Star said:

“Season 4 is going to be more about navigating complicated relationships; personal relationships and work relationships, and how they come into conflict with each other…”

Concerning what tangent Gabriel and Camille’s baby will lead season 4 to take, Darren Star, in conversation with Entertainment Tonight, mentioned that it would take some time before Camille’s baby appears on the show. He said:

“It’s very clear in season 3 that it’s a big dream of [Gabriel’s]. He wants to be a father and I think he was excited and is excited about the idea of fatherhood, but you know, our show doesn’t move that quickly.” He further added, “We’ve had three seasons and maybe six months of actual time [have passed], so I’m not sure we’re going to actually see a baby in season 4. But I think that we’re going to have to deal with the prospect of the baby.”

In addition, Lucien Laviscount also opened up about his character’s potential in the upcoming installment of the show while speaking to Entertainment Weekly. He explicated, “I’d like Alfie to kind of take a little bit more of a stand within the company with Antoine, that’d be cool. Maybe have a little bit of a speaking to with the good ole Nicolas, I think that that’d be quite a nice little thing to play with within the business, the two businesses kind of fighting off each other.

“I personally, as me, I need closure on certain things, whatever that might look like. So I guess with Alfie and Emily, whether it be closure or a friendship or whatever, to explore that? Because I know it’s been explored [a little], but I think their relationship is different than what Gabriel and Emily’s was.

“So it’d be interesting to explore that maybe. But, like I say, I’m all in for whatever.”

Elsewhere, while speaking to The Wrap, creator Darren Star shared insights regarding Emily’s character arc in terms of her professional life. He said, “Emily’s attitude about work or her competitive nature, it’s certainly affected the work culture at Sylvie’s company and I think Julien feels sidelined a little bit because Emily’s always about being the loudest voice in the room.

“I think that’s something that really offends Julien in a sense, because I feel like he does get steamrolled by Emily. Emily’s by no means a perfect character and I think Emily has to be more graceful in terms of work, but I think she’s done some damage that we’re going to see the fallout from in season four with Julien.”

Who are the cast members of Emily in Paris Season 3?

Although Netflix has not shared the official trailer of Emily in Paris season 4, it shared a teaser, where Collins hinted at the questions that the upcoming installment will answer, such as: ‘So much happened that we just need answers to. Is Alfie still heartbroken? Will Gabriel get his Michelin star? Will Mindy and the band go to Eurovision? And what about Camille? Will Sylvie’s rekindled love last?’

Collins further added: ‘And the question on all of our minds. Will Emily and Gabriel finally get together?’

Not only that, but the actress also revealed that her character’s ‘life takes some unexpected twists this season.’

‘Emily is going to have to decide whether everything she’s always wanted is really what she needs,’ she hinted. ‘And while Emily’s heart will always remain true to Paris, don’t be surprised to find her on a Roman holiday.”

Emily in Paris creator Darren Star disclosed some juicy details which teased the plot tangent that the fourth installment of Netflix’s rom-com will possibly take while speaking to TV Guide. Upon being asked about Emily and Gabriel, reigniting their spark in the fourth season since they are technically single, Star said, “I don’t know that Gabriel is in the best place to start a relationship with Emily…I am not sure that Emily wants a relationship with Gabriel under the circumstances.”

Although Alfie’s exit from Emily’s life appears to be firm and steady, it is, according to Star, not the ultimatum. He said, “Emily is still going to be working with Alfie, Gabriel, and Camille. Those work relationships are really fraught with emotional conflicts.”

Be that as it may, Star does not explicitly disclose whom Emily will choose in the upcoming installment. He said, “There are more chapters before we get anywhere near that…I don’t have one strong idea at the moment of who she is going to be with.”

Lily Collins, who reprises the female protagonist, Emily Cooper, is also serving as the executive producer on the show. In a conversation with People about her character arc in Season 4, she revealed that she wants her character to receive closure. Additionally, she mentioned that her character’s friendship with Ashley Park will remain honest and grounded in the upcoming season as well.

At the time of writing this article, Netflix has not disclosed any word regarding Emily in Paris season 4, sealing the fate of the show. However, when the show received a two-season renewal order and the seasons were even rumored to be filmed back-to-back, wondering whether season 4 is the last one or not seems legit. Be that as it may, this is not the first time that a Netflix original series has been given two-season renewal order or even filmed two seasons back-to-back.

Joining the coterie, we have Virgin River and Heartstopper, and we don’t doubt whether the latest or upcoming seasons would seal the fate. These two, like Emily in Paris, are also smash hits.
