Will fans get to witness “Kenergy” once again? The question arose when Ryan Gosling was asked if he would perform “I’m Just Ken” from the summer blockbuster “Barbie” at the upcoming Academy Awards in March.

With a touch of humor, the actor, 43, responded during an interview with W Magazine, saying, “Well, I haven’t been invited. But thanks for pointing that out.” Playfully, he continued, “And I wasn’t thinking about it until now. Now it’s all I’m gonna think about,” leading his co-star Margot Robbie to burst out in laughter.

‘Do you get paid to sing at the Oscars?’

Gosling, appearing to entertain the idea, raised a question about performing at the awards ceremony. “Do you get paid for that?” he asked, prompting a doubtful response from Robbie, 33, who replied, “I doubt it.”

The ‘La La Land’ actor further inquired about the compensation for singing at the Oscars. “What do you get paid to sing at the Oscars?” he asked. “They pick you up at least, right? You don’t have to self-drive?”

In good spirits, Robbie playfully quipped that the awards show would at least cover the ride home. “You get a free ride,” she giggled, adding, “Uber home, maybe?”

Gosling made it clear to both Robbie and interviewer Lynn Hirschberg that he was “still thinking about it” before they shifted to a different discussion.

‘I’m just Ken’ is nominated for Golden Globes

Three songs from the blockbuster film “Barbie,” which achieved a whopping $1.3 billion worldwide, have been submitted for consideration at the 2024 Academy Awards. The submitted songs include “I’m Just Ken,” “What Was I Made For?” by Billie Eilish and Finneas, and “Dance the Night” by Ronson, Wyatt, Dua Lipa, and Caroline Ailin.

The nominations for the 96th Oscars will be released on January 23, 2024, with the tradition of having the nominated songs performed by the artists during the ceremony. Notably, “I’m Just Ken” and the two other “Barbie” songs are currently in the running for Best Original Song – Motion Picture at the upcoming Golden Globes, scheduled for January 7.

‘What is a dream ballet?’

Greta Gerwig talked about the song and dance sequence while speaking to Variety during the BFI London Film Festival in October 2023. She said, “It just said in the script, ‘And then it becomes a dream ballet and they work it out through dance.”

She was then dragged into several “big meetings” with studio executives over the inclusion of the sequence. “I was like, ‘Everything in me needs this,’” she continued. “They were like, ‘What do you even mean? What is a dream ballet?’ And I was like, ‘A dream ballet? Where do I begin!’”

She drew a comparison between the scene and a moment in the classic film “Singin’ in the Rain,” led by Gene Kelly and Debbie Reynolds. Reflecting on the similarity, she remarked, “I was like, ‘If people could follow that in ‘Singin’ in the Rain,’ I think we’ll be fine. I think people will know what this is.’”
