Over the years, the idea of reenergizing yourself at the weekend has changed sporadically. Now, it’s just one phrase: Netflix and chill. Although some people do believe in spending the weekends in unconventional ways, a majority of them choose to do so by binge-watching the series on their screens. If you’re one of them, then we’ve got some really exciting movies for you to watch this upcoming weekend.
Here are 5 thrilling and exciting movies to watch this weekend
1. Thirteen Lives
Created by Ron Howard, this biographical survival film is one of the few that is receiving praise from critics. The film is based on the real story that occurred in 2018 when a soccer team was trapped in Tham Luang for two weeks. In addition to its gripping plot, the movie also features impressive cast members, including Viggo Mortensen, Joel Edgerton, and Colin Farrell.
2. Purple Hearts
If you are in the mood for some romance, then you should definitely watch this one. Based on a titular novel, Purple Hearts outlines a singer-songwriter called Cassie (Sophia Carson) who falls in love with a guy named Luke (Nicholas Galitzine). Did you know that this film has surpassed movies like The Gray Man and The Sea Beast in terms of viewership and is currently one of the most-watched films on Netflix?
3. The Gray Man
Now, if we have mentioned The Gray Man, we might as well just mention it here. Directed by Anthony Russo and Joe Russo, The Gray Man follows the life of a CIA black ops guy, Court Gentry (Ryan Gosling), who is escaping from getting captured or killed by Lloyd Hansen (Chris Evans), his former colleague. It’s basically Netflix’s attempt to create its own James Bond-kind franchise. Cast members include Ryan Gosling, Ana de Armas, Rege-Jean Page, Chris Evans, Wagner Moura, Jessica Henwick, Alfre Woodard, Billy Bob Thornton, and Julia Butters.
4. Girl in the Picture
If your job left you sort of bored, or you’re tired of your mundane life and are looking forward to adding a bit more thrill to it, then Girl in the Picture is the right fit for you. A true crime documentary, Girl in the Picture, follows the life of a young woman called Sharon Marshall, whose father brutally abused her. In 1990, Marshall was found in a terrible condition by the side of the road, which instigated the investigation into Floyd, her father’s crimes. Don’t worry; it’s not too lurid, so you won’t ruin your weekend with graphics, but yes, this documentary will take a toll on your mind if you are looking for something lighter.
5. Our Father
If you’re looking for something less heavy but on a crime note, then Our Father is the right fit. Directed by Lucie Jordan, Our Father is a terrifying story about Dr Donal Cline, a fertility doctor who would covertly impregnate his patients with his sperm. The film includes a series of interviews with victims, some of whom have raised Cline’s children. At some point, one can associate it with tabloid sensationalism, although the facts and stories are true to their core.
