Giving birth is both a wonderful and painful feeling for women. While a woman waits for nine months to finally see the face of her child, there are times when things can go wrong and a woman may suffer from a miscarriage. Miscarriage usually occurs in the first 20 weeks of pregnancy. Losing a baby is the most heart-wrenching phase a woman has to go through. It becomes difficult when you have been trying to have a baby for quite some time. It makes you feel devastated and broken.
What is miscarriage?
When an embryo or baby leaves the uterus before 20 weeks of pregnancy, it is called a miscarriage. The majority occur in the first 12 weeks. Heavy bleeding, cramps, and back or abdominal discomfort are frequently the initial symptoms of this. It is confirmed by the doctor by doing an ultrasound and some other tests. As time passes by, things get better.
To feel better physically and mentally one needs to keep in mind certain things that will help you move on healthily from the difficult phase.
Here are the 7 things to keep in mind when dealing with a miscarriage:
Resting
Take rest as much as you can. If told so, go to bed rest for as long as the doctor has advised. Resting will help your body heal quickly.
Take medications
Never even think of missing out on medication. Even if you have started feeling better, never stop medications or miss them until and unless your doctor has asked you to do so. Have multivitamins too.
Avoid intercourse
At this moment, the uterus gets sensitive, and sexual intercourse might hurt. Also, having sex requires energy, and your body might not have the strength at all.
Focus on your food
Eat healthy and nutritious food. Try eating freshly prepared meals. Add green vegetables and fresh fruits to your diet. Have food rich in protein like cheese, grains, fish, pulses, etc. Drink more and more fluids.
Avoid household chores
Do not wash clothes or mop the floor. Avoid lifting heavy weight things too. All these chores require core strength, and you should avoid putting pressure on your core.
Trying another pregnancy
Miscarriage is very tiring and stressful for your body. It needs to heal before having to try for a baby again. Let yourself know that you will get pregnant again but at the right time.
Emotional healing
The grief of losing an unborn child is tragic and painful. You have to give yourself some time to be okay with that. Communicate with your partner about your feelings and understand his thoughts too.
It is okay for whatever has happened. Don’t blame yourself. Heal physically and mentally. Try again but only when your body, mind, and doctor give you a thumbs up. It will all be fine. Just give time to everyone and everything, and it will all fall into place as it is supposed to be. Hope never dies. Overcoming can be tough, but you need to move on in life. You can’t get stuck here.
