Tantamount to Squid Game in terms of popularity, the Netflix Original All of Us Are Dead has been a treat for all horror-genre fanatics. However, it’s been more than a year since it was renewed, and we are nowhere closer to its release.
For those unversed, All of Us Are Dead is a South Korean zombie thriller that is based on the webtoon Now at Our School by Joo Dong-geun. Written by Chun Sung-il and directed by Lee Jae Gyoo, who is popular for his works like Trap, King2Hearts, and Intimate Strangers, the episodes revolve around the repercussions of a failed science experiment by Hyosan High science teacher Lee Byeong-chan.
The failed experiment caused a breakout of a mysterious virus that transformed humans into zombies. To prevent it from affecting wider groups of people, the authorities declared a state of emergency, and the city was placed under lockdown. Amidst all this ruckus, a group of students was trapped in Hyosan High and must now battle against a zombie outbreak.
The official synopsis of All of Us Are Dead reads:
“A high school becomes ground zero for a zombie virus outbreak. Trapped students must fight their way out or turn into one of the rabid infected.”
The series features Yoon Chan-young, Park Ji-hu, Cho Yi-hyun, Park Solomon (Lomon), Yoo In-soo, Lee Yoo-mi, Kim Byung-chul, Jeon Bae-soo, Lee Kyu-hyung, Im Jae-hyeok, Ha Seung-ri, Lee Eun-saem, and many others.
Owing to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, the production schedules of OTT shows and movies were postponed indefinitely. As a result, a lot of people thought that the release of All of Us Are Dead season 2 would also be postponed. However, that’s not the case.
Here’s what we know so far.
All of Us Are Dead season 2: Is it coming to Netflix in October?
Unfortunately, All of Us Are Dead season 2 is not coming to Netflix in October. However, that’s not because of the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike or the five-month-long WGA strike, which recently ended. Per LA Times, these strikes would not affect or did not have any effect on the production schedules of K-dramas owing to their geographical differentiation.
That leaves one to wonder why is All of Us Are Dead season 2 taking so long to release. In a conversation with Teen Vogue in March 2023, Park Ji-Hu revealed that they had not even begun filming yet. Since then, there has been no concrete update regarding the production schedule of All of Us Are Dead season 2. If it begins by the end of this year, we can expect the second installment to arrive on Netflix by late 2024 or early 2025.
