Are you ready to return to the chilling realm of terror as American Horror Story returns for its highly anticipated twelfth season? If yes, then here is everything you need to know.

The fans of this highly admired franchise were excited to find their favorite show being a part of FX’s 2023–24 streaming lineup, which raised the hype for the show’s return more than ever! After all, it has been one of the best series that has gathered millions of viewers around the world who have religiously streamed this series ever since its inception years ago!

So, ever since the renewal was announced, everything looked positive for the future schedule, but sadly, the delight of the fans has been overshadowed by some major changes heading toward the network’s plans. Right now, it seems like the release date for the majority of upcoming shows will be postponed, which the creators have also begun to hint to their audiences.

Hence, if you are curious to know what the major reasons are that have caused such a sudden turn of events, then you have come to the right place! We at Web News Observer have compiled all the latest developments that are occurring behind the scenes in order to execute a new lineup with revised release dates for many beloved shows. Continue reading to find out more about FX’s American Horror Story Season 12.

American Horror Story Season 12 Release Date: Has it been delayed?

American Horror Story Season 12 Release Date: When can we expect it to premiere?

We know that the excitement among loyal AHS fans has been incredible since the series was renewed for the 12th season as a part of a multi-season renewal back in 2020!

But we want to shed some light on an unfortunate update: the exact release date of the upcoming season hasn’t been confirmed. One of the main reasons for not disclosing such details this early on is the fact that on May 4, 2023, the filming was shut down due to the WGA writer’s strike. On the same day, it was also reported that production resumed and that the cast and crew were using a back entrance to enter the studio and avoid crossing the picket line, which caused major backlash from the community.

In addition to this, it has recently been reported that the filming has yet again been shut down due to the commencement of the SAG-AFTRA strike, which has once again caused a major delay in the production that can ultimately shift the potential release window which was previously reported to wrap sometime around late October for it to at least start premiering early, with the season scheduled to return sometime around the summer of 2023 on FX and later on Hulu.

American Horror Story Season 12 Release Date: Has it been delayed?

This situation has been quite disheartening because the speculated release window can now be shifted further, which might happen sometime around 2024 because we assume the series isn’t going to start production anytime soon with these ongoing strikes, and it might force the crew to reschedule the filming plans, which may be able to begin later this year after the strike is over and work resumes so that the filming can be completed on schedule.

Despite all the hurdles causing major networks to change the approved schedules, Variety has recently reported that the upcoming installment of the fan-favorite horror anthology series not only remains in production but also remains on track to premiere sometime later this year. In the end, it’s safe to assume that the release date might get delayed only once the filming officially concludes late in 2023, which tends to last for months before revealing the official release date.

As a result, we will have to wait and hope for the best while guessing what will happen next!

American Horror Story Season 12 Plot: What to expect?

This show has mostly been conceived as self-contained miniseries, following a different set of characters in a new setting within the same fictional universe (which the show occasionally utilizes for crossovers between seasons and shares with episodic spin-off American Horror Stories) and a storyline with its own “beginning, middle, and end.” Some plot elements of each season are loosely inspired by true events. Many actors appear in more than one season, usually playing a new character, though sometimes as a returning character, and often playing multiple characters in a season.

But, for the first time, this season will lean heavily on the original sources. As each episode is being written by Halley Feiffer, she will take over as showrunner from Murphy. The 12th season is titled Delicate, and it is based, at least in part, on Danielle Valentine’s upcoming novel, Delicate Condition. As highlighted by the exclusive report of The Hollywood Reporter, the novel is described as a gripping thriller about a woman who becomes convinced that a sinister figure is going to great lengths to make sure her pregnancy never happens.

The cover blurb from author Andrea Bartz describes Delicate Condition as “the feminist update to Rosemary’s Baby we all needed.” This is not the first time Rosemary’s Baby has been mentioned in American Horror Story, as this Valentine’s novel adaptation looks like it will follow in the footsteps of Ira Levin’s famous book. This gives us an idea about the direction that the show is taking, as little is known about the exact plot and what horrors await us, but if past seasons are any indication, we can expect grotesque creatures, haunted locations, and plenty of blood-curdling mayhem.

American Horror Story Season 12 Cast: Who will return?

Previously, it was confirmed that AHS star and serial Murphy collaborator Emma Roberts will be back for this season, along with Kim Kardashian and Matt Czuchry. Giving hints about the new iterations, Emma Roberts teased her fans about her character in American Horror Story Season 12, stating, “This character is much more grown up. She dresses very Carolyn Bessette, ’90s New York — I’m obsessed with my character’s style this season.”

Moreover, regarding Kim Kardashian’s involvement Ryan Murphy stated, “Kim is among the biggest and brightest television stars in the world, and we are thrilled to welcome her to the American Horror Story family. Emma and I are excited about collaborating with this true force in the culture. Halley Feiffer has written a fun, stylish, and ultimately terrifying role, especially for Kim, and this season is ambitious and unlike anything we have ever done.”

That’s not all! Earlier this year, it was reported that Matt Czuchry has also joined the cast of the twelfth season after the cancellation of The Resident. Along with Cara Delevingne in an unknown character after she was spotted filming scenes with Roberts a few weeks ago. Later, it was also reported that Annabelle Dexter-Jones, Michaela Jaé Rodriguez, Odessa A’zion, Billie Lourd, Julie White, Debra Monk, and Denis O’Hare have also joined the star cast.

On the other hand, Zachary Quinto will also return for a cameo in season 12. “I did a cameo on this season of American Horror Story and I got to meet [Kim Kardashian],” he told People. Further adding, “She was so lovely and warm and, really, I don’t think she needs my advice. She seemed really in her element, and I was really impressed by her spirit and her openness. I really look forward to seeing this season because I think she’s gonna do a wonderful job.”

Sadly, everyone’s favorite Sarah Paulson has decided not to return in the new season, as she told Variety last year.

“It’s not that I’m not open to it. I’m always open to it, but I feel like I’ve been doing it for a long time, and people might start getting sick of me in that world. Let someone else scream and run and cry for a second. Other people can do that too! Also, my nervous system. There was a time when I was younger when I was like, ‘I can do this all night. I love it!’ Now I’m like, ‘Momma’s tired!’ What I’m looking for is new. I’m looking for new experiences and looking to collaborate in new ways with young filmmakers. I’m interested in this idea of being the old lady on the set.”

Lastly, the series is created by Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk for the cable network FX. The series is produced by 20th Century Fox Television.

American Horror Story Season 12 Official Trailer: Has it been released?

Unfortunately, the network has not released any teasers for the new season! So, while you wait for the premiere of American Horror Story Season 12, check out the prior season, which starts in 1981 in New York City, where a series of murders targeting the gay community garners hatred for the apathetic NYPD. Closeted detective Patrick Read and his partner, New York Native reporter Gino Barelli, for whom Read left his ex, Barbara, begin investigating the murderous homicidal duo consisting of the elusive leather-clad “Big Daddy” and twisted Dr. Whitely.

Their differing opinions on how to approach the investigation, however, lead to a rough patch in their relationship. Read and Barelli are joined by Adam Carpenter, a young gay man whose friend has gone missing. Carpenter’s search leads him to a connection with photographer Theo Graves, though this draws jealousy from Graves’ toxic partner Sam. Meanwhile, Dr. Hannah Wells investigates a new disease spreading from Fire Island while Cabaret singer Kathy Pizzaz handles decreasing audiences at her local bathhouse venue.
