The makers of the famous show Dark, 1899 is an eight-episode thriller mystery horror that takes you through a journey of mind-bending reality. One is not able to differentiate what is real and what is imagination. It follows a dreamlike pattern where immigrants traveling from London to New York on a steamship is one of the mythical or last steamships encounter another, after which there is a clash, and they go into a dreamlike state. The passengers wanted to go abroad to start their lives, but each one of them had their own hidden dark secrets. What happens when they find one of the most mystical and mythical ships lost in the sea and take them away? Is it even real? Or are they in their world? Is there an alternate reality? Would they have to confront the secrets before they reach their destination? Or are they on a journey at all? The show garnered a large fan base because of the thrill it provided and the way it was structured, just like Dark- very confusing, science-based, full of mythology, and complicated, which made fans intrigued by the show. However, this show was canceled after the first season and will not be coming in 2023
Freeridge:
Year of Release: 2023

Genre: Comedy
Streaming Partner: Netflix
Director: Lauren Lungerich

After the show On My Block became famous, having a spin-off comedy series became extremely important. The makers then came up with a classic coming-of-age story of four teen friends who get together in order to find a remedy to a curse and reverse it because an old box seems to bring them misfortune and is a bad omen. It also creates a lot of unnecessary and new problems in their lives, or so they think. The maker selected this concept because they believe that coming of age never goes out of style. Teen dramas are also relatable to a larger audience. However, the show was not perceived like the original on my block, and they were highly disappointed because of low viewership. The show had to not be renewed for another season, and even if it is going to happen, it will not be in 2024, considering the costs and deliberation involved and the writers’ strike going on. The release would not happen in 2023.
Lockwood & Co.:
Year of Release: 2023
Number of Seasons: 1
IMDB Rating: 7.4/10
Genre: Supernatural-drama
Streaming Partner: Netflix
Director: William McGregor
Cast: Ruby Stokes(Lucy), Cameron Chapman(Anthony), Paddy Holland(Bobby)
Based on a famous novel by the same name, The show follows the journey of children and adolescents, who are the only ones in a town to see the ghosts, or the supernatural, also known as the problems. Because of their psychic abilities and having these superpowers, they are being assigned tasks and missions. The protagonist is a girl with psychic abilities who comes to this town when she finds out that there are so many ghosts and she’s supposed to deal with one particular type of them. She, along with her team and new friends, forms an organization called Lockwood and Co by the Townside, which helps bust ghosts, and all the missions they come across have been captured throughout the first season. The reason it is not going to be renewed is because initially, the show had a high response, but after that, the viewership started to come down. Even though the show has performed exceptionally well and is loved by the audiences, it will not be coming in 2023 for sure. There is a high chance that, based on overall critic views, it can be back but the next year only.

What if shortly after, there is a murder that happens of one of those students and five students who were sent to detention for various reasons from different classes are the prime accused? The four become suspects, each of them with a motive. One of them is a former criminal with a record, another a bright student with a rift. But the truth is shocking. Towards the first season’s end, we do find out who has done the murder, but it is strange when the four people who have now become friends due to this particular incident come together and have a discussion about what exactly happened. After that, season two follows some court trials and arrests to see actually who has committed the murder. Despite being a famous show based on a novel, it did not get the love that it deserved and was not appreciated enough. The viewership went down after the second season drastically. Due to this, they would not be coming back for another season in 2023. However, there are chances that the next year, the show can be renewed for a season three. It is also seen that season two concludes the show really well. So, there is a very low chance that it can be renewed in 2024.
Uncoupled:

Shows that express queer love with the pinch of reality have been in the news for quite some time now. Uncoupled was one such show, where a gay man is being abandoned by his soul mate after 17 long years of relationship and is now single. Here, he meets another man, and both feel attracted to each other. The series is all about them coming together, facing their insecurities, and fighting the age gaps as well as the society. It also sees how one learns to date the Gen Z style after so many years. Even though the show has a good star cast, it is not returning for a second season in 2023 because of the writer strike as well as high production costs. However, season two has not been fully canceled yet and will be back any time next year.
With over twenty shows loved by the audiences and not returning in 2023, we can hope for their arrival in 2024.
