Billie Eilish shared the honor with brother Finneas O’Connell.

Gracing the stage during the Golden Globe Awards, Eilish initiated her acceptance speech by saying, “Thank you so much. To The Golden Globes, I was not expecting this at this moment. Thank you to my brother Finneas, you are the reason I am who I am,” adding, “I want to thank Greta and Noah for making this incredible film. I want to thank Margot for being Margot — that we know and love.”

The Bad Guy singer continued, “I want to thank Mattel and Interscope, my label, and Darkroom and my incredible team — Chelsea and Michelle — and my managers and my mom. My mom and my dad and my brother again,” adding, “And you know, it was exactly a year ago almost that we were shown the movie and I was very, very miserable and depressed at the time and writing that song kind of saved me a little bit.”

Eilish concluded her acceptance speech by saying, “And a year later here we are and it’s surreal. I feel incredibly, incredibly lucky. Incredibly lucky and grateful and you guys scare the living hell out of me — everyone in this room — but thank you so much. Thank you, this means the world.”

Barbie bagged three song nominations and was among six nominees for best original song, which included: “Addicted to Romance” by Bruce Springsteen in She Came to Me; “Dance the Night” by Mark Ronson, Andrew Wyatt, Dua Lipa and Caroline Ailin in Barbie; “I’m Just Ken” by Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt in Barbie; “Peaches” by Jack Black, Aaron Horvath, Michael Jelenic, Eric Osmond and John Spiker inThe Super Mario Bros. Movie; and “Road to Freedom” by Lenny Kravitz in Rustin.

About the winning song, the Golden Globe winner told Apple Music 1 host Zane Lowe in a July interview, that it was a result of “frustration in writing,” with her brother, music producer and songwriter Finneas, which led to the birth of “What Was I Made For?” Eilish revealed at the time, that the song was purely the result of Barbie’s inspiration, but later proved to resonate with the singer as well.

She said, “I really don’t mean this to come off a conceited way at all, but I do this thing where I make stuff that I don’t even know is … like, I’m writing for myself and I don’t even know it,” adding, “It is one of the most incredible things I get to experience in my life. Dude, the next week I was playing it in the car all day and playing it for everybody. And I was like, ‘This is exactly how I feel. And I didn’t even mean to be saying it.’ ”

We can hope for more bangers from Eilish this year!
